I was advertised this on TikTok being a free app to use. Whilst making my plans with the app, I felt like I was ready to get into this learning but instead, I was asked to rate the app even before starting anything, and then I was smacked in the face with a payment request with a 3 day trial. Really saddening.

app forces you to leave a rating before even using the app, and then once you create an account you’re offered a 3 day free trial only before committing to $50 per year.

all i wanted was the lockscreen widget— why am i forced to create an account and then forced to get the free trial? no thanks. uninstalled.

Literally makes you set up your profile all just to have you pay for it before you can even try it. Annoying

I really like the widget and the app has a elegant design and given first of its kind, would really like the developers to expand upon its functionality as it seems theres no review system in place besides marking the words as “learning”, “almost” and “learned”. I have marked nearly 100 words as “learning” and it doesnt even show up under review tab? Im just building a large backlog of words basically, the SRS flashcard system doesnt work. If they can fix this, then will update the rating but the emails it seems they dont reply to emails either. For the £30 price, would expect this to be a given as you are learning vocabulary. Also would like to see more sentence examples besides the two and more complex examples with clauses/phrases then simple sentences, especially for advanced users selecting hsk6 native level and maybe the functionality to being able to save sentences would be a game changer. But atm, this app is very basic and only paying for the passive widget itself. Also sometimes the deep linking doesnt work when authenticating with face ID and it directs you to incorrect word. Also when you ate exploring other tabs besides “for you”.

Predatory behavior, forcing you directly into a trial subscription model. Feels more like they are selling a nice convenient effortless fancy dream, of you getting proficient without any real effort. Definitely not worth the 40 bucks.

Why the hell would I pay a subscription for an app that only has one practical application?? Not worth it, especially after they only tell you after you make an account and ask for a rating. Trash.

How come I pay for the app but have no main function which is the widget? Can’t add neither to a lock screen or a main screen. I can understand when smt like this happening on freemium model but it’s fully paid one …

As others mention, you answer all these questions, get emotionally invested and then bam, you get hit with payment. If they would have just said the cost up front , 3 bucks a month, I would have done it. Not a fan, other free apps are better

When you download and launch this app for the first time, it will spend 5min asking you a bunch questions to customize your experience, etc. It waits all the way until the end to tell you you only get a 3 day free trial (seriously, 3 days?) , then it costs something like 39.99 a month or something wild like that. Immediately deleted. I just wanted the lock screen feature, that’s it.

Fake reviews, literally have to pay for something that takes 2 hours to code, might as well pay for a Claude ai membership and make the app yourself

I love the idea of the app and how it gives you a way to learn hanzi daily however for people who don’t know the app is not free and there is a 26 I think dollar fee monthly or smthg

You can not use the app unless you pay for it that is such a scam for something that simple!!! I absolutely do not recommend this app!

Impossible to add widget to the lock screen. You still have to unlock the phone to access it.

For daily practice

Liked the idea of the app, but being forced to trial before anything is just bad user experience. Also not being able to add or customize your own word list is a huge negative

I am in love with a Chinese guy and this is really helping me to master my rizz

I've tried pretty much every app for Chinese learning and this is my favorite. It allows me to learn HSK with full control over whether I want to learn Pinyin or Hanzi. My only complaint about the app is that some of the flashcards don't really make sense on their own, and the review functionality seems to be broken, so you have to manually check how the words can be used and you have to go back and review them yourself. If they fix this it will be my favorite app.

First off, i like the concept of app and it does get me to review vocab more frequently. but there is this small annoying interaction where i tap the home screen widget and the app doesn't open to the same word. Often times I can't even see the word in today's list. Also, I find it confusing that I set a daily goal of words and once I've reviewed that many words, the list doesnt restart and let me retest the forgotten ones. instead it keeps presenting me additional words for the day. This makes it hard to capture benefits of SRS and also it makes the review and for you categories a little confusing to understand.

The lock screen feature is really helpful and I feel like the database of words used is good, I like how you can tailor the topics shown

If you want to speak Chinese conversationally in modern world 2026 and be able to travel around China recognizing everyday words, Daily Hanzi is the app to learn Chinese. I have tried other apps like Duolingo and Busuu but felt extremely discouraged with my progress. Keep up the good work, and thank you for making an effective Chinese language learning app!!!

I am enjoying the app so far! It is a great reminder to actually take time, even a minute or two, to review or learn a new word. I would really like it if you could add the voice dictation for the sentences so it reads aloud the example sentences provided. I would also enjoy if you could add the ability to select words in the example sentences to define and delve further. I can’t wait to see how this app grows. I would love to see further reading and learning features for everyday conversations and signs that you would normally see and hear in China. Keep up the amazing work on this app!

Daily Hanzi is a great APP for learning Chinese characters, it gives you a set of Chinese characters for your to learn according to your Chinese level and your interests, it shows the writing and the meaning of the characters, as well as the pinyin and pronunciation. At the same time you can learn the usage of the word in a sentence. The great thing of the APP is that it shows the Chinese characters in the lock screen of your phone to help you remember them. Overall it is a great APP for learning Chinese.

This is a great supplemental tool for spaced repetition learning of characters. The widget emphasis is pretty cool too and will keep me on track. I’m not a fan of the subscription model, I would rather just buy the tool flat out like Pleco offers. $5/month is simply too high of an asking price for a supplemental flashcard tool

I found this app through Instagram and thought the lock screen widget feature was really cool. I usually forget to study Chinese and having it directly on my lockscreen makes it really easy to remember to study! I also like how it gives me new words that I find useful and caters to my reading level. The pronounciation is also a huge plus. Loving it so far!
