I used to rant and rave about notability. It was flawless for the first 2 years of my degree. As a medical student,to be able to handwrite all my notes and have them in the one place was essential. However all through 3rd year and 4th year I’ve had issue after issue mainly with my notes not downloading from iCloud. At first it would be one or 2 notes but now all of my notes (over 500) refuse to download on my iPad no matter how long you leave the page open. I tried everything to get it to work and support were no help. I’m now forced to try to download all my notes from my laptop and find a different app to use. I’d do anything for it to work properly again.

Don’t bother paying for Premium for the Audio Transcripts (a key feature). The timestamp of the transcription is way off the audio, so you have to waste time finding the actual corresponding point in the audio recording. Happens in recordings as short as 10 minutes. They’ve acknowledged the issue to me 12/Feb/25 and say there’s no timeline to fix. It’s been broken for months. Also, there is no way to get the full transcript as one piece of text, so if you want to bring a copy across to another app e.g. for summarising by ChatGPT, it’s virtually impossible. I’ll update this review when both the above serious issues are fixed. It remains one star until then.

I have been a notability user for about 6 years and until now its been working absolutely fine. However, I needed to upload some homework a while back and it was done on notability. However, as I am about click on the note file to open it shows a loading screen. After waiting a bit, I click on it and it says ‘wait for notability to finish downloading files from iCloud’ or something along those lines. However, a few days after it did finally load, well past from when my homework was due. The interesting fact is I never toggled this feature on. A few days ago the same thing happens, so I look this up and how to fix this and turns out you have toggle iCloud syncing off in order for it to load but even after that it took a good half and hour of me constantly restarting the app and my iPad. I do understand that the longer wait times are possibly because of multiple external factors such as bad internet and device model but regardless, a good note-taking app should pose the ability to work smoothly on most devices and low internet speeds while being able to provide a note when asked for with at minimum a few seconds of delay. This is not expected from what used to be such a great app. Please improve this as soon as possible. Have a Great Day, A user of Notability,

I am a tech director at a school with 600 of these on iPads and iCloud is terrible with Notability and Notability won’t even respond to tickets I had in for months. This means they are in iCloud but not downloaded for one of a few reasons. With iCloud on it doesn’t believe any of your notes belong to your iPad and it can delete them and download them again at any time. I have single students with 5GB of notes so this is a huge problem. This can even happen mid note, it just disappears. This is with students with 200GB if iCloud and 128GB of iPad storage so no issues. If you run out of iCloud or iPad storage you may lose some of those notes permanently. Notability has not been able to show me a way to sync only some parts of your notes. They did respond to tell me iCloud was not an acceptable backup only a sync. If you turn off iCloud this goes away, and can download the notes to your iPad. If you turn on iCloud again they will be back on the sync cache and could disappear.

Update are for bug fixes, for improvements and to introduce new features, but why you have to touch some of the stuff which are working at their best. Before the update, in the toolbox we could add more than 8 color pens with different line thickness which are permanently specified for each pen. For example Black pen with line thickness 3(Mostly for headings), Blue pen with line thickness 2(for note taking). I could seamlessy jump from one pen to another without any inconvenience to change the line thickness. BUT now after the update, only 8 pens i can add and MOST FRUSTRATING part, i cannot set specific line thickness for each pen. Tell me why you have to do this. Now it's so inconvenient to change each time the line thickness while you are going from one pen to another. This also applies for highlighter pen. Many times i wrote to customer support and also at the public suggestion feed but still their is no positive answer or updates. I am using notability from last 4 years vigorously, never ever took this much time to resolve any issue. I hope soon this issue will be fixed!

I used to love notability. I’m a third year nursing student and for the past 2 years I used notability for all my notes I even paid for the premium but it was brilliant even with out that. But this year there is a limit on how long I can spend writting notes. I was in the middle of doing my notes, when it kicked me out of the app and when I went back in it wouldn’t let me edit anything or create s new page or even to write one more word. I was only on notability for possibly an hour tonight and 2 hours last week. So I do not understand how my limit is used up when that’s all I’ve used of it for the past 3 months. I do not think im going to continue to use this app. As a student I used notability to write my notes, study, planning my months, weeks, and to do lists. However I would spend many hours a week at minimum 10 hours on this app. If it is going to make me pay just to write my notes I will not continue to use it. I understand having premium for other reasons and bonuses but not for simply writting a note in plain black on a blank sleet of paper

DO NOT BUY THIS APP; CHECK REVIEWS: NO POSITIVE REVIEWS FOR LAST YEAR….THIS IS A RUINED APP….USED TO BE BRILLIANT: have come to update this since the text I submitted below…it is even worse than what I have said…you cannot rename documents on the iOS version without going through a ridiculous procedure, that continually does not work but kicks you back into the document itself…GET THIS; in 2023 you cannot select all text in a document name and delete it, instead you have to backspace out the names, BUT you can’t even hold your finger down on the backspace…you have to tap it for every letter…otherwise it simply kicks you into the document…it is ludicrous and completely inconvenient…which is the point of a note taking app…look elsewhere if you want convenience. I was using this to mark work as a teacher….won’t be anymore as the renaming of documents on iOS (and I deal with hundreds of documents) is now SOOO slow….you were able to open the note and change the name in the note itself, it also let you highlight the name and delete it in one go….NOW I have to hold my finger on the note, wait for it to pop out a menu, choose rename and then backspace out the text that is in there….takes an extra couple of minutes….that’s hundreds of extra couple of minutes that I don’t have 👎

I fail to see why the developers felt the need to compromise functionality for minimalistic aesthetics. The purpose of a note taking app is to take notes, not to admire the interface. Essential functions (such as recently deleted, note search, bookmarks, etc) have been compressed and hidden in unsuspecting places to enhance the stylistic interface, making them inconvenient and inaccessible to new users. This new update offers little improvement, and is a complete downgrade from the old version of Notability in terms of practicality and efficiency. All of this is not to mention the note limit and user limits, which once reached, locks your notes into read-only, and must require a subscription to edit again. Again, while the interface may look fresh and sleek, the complete ignorance towards the need of users is what defines this new update as a useless liability. Aesthetics are not what we look for when downloading note taking apps, and now when using Notability, which once was a convenient turn-to for assignments that offered user-friendly functions, has now become a frustrating battle against unnecessary, newly added, stylistic features. We did not need this, so please at least add an option to change it back.

Now it takes more time to open the app than before, and every new feature comes with bugs and lags in the writing experience. Notability has been introducing many great features. However, the app become very laggy and unstable. I think priority should be given to the app's stability. I won't be able to rely on this app anymore as I have lost some notes because of this. This is sad because this app really used to be the best but now it is going down. The team really need to focus on stability! I don't think I am the only one mentioned that, so should be addressed somehow and sooner. One more thing, the app shows ads even though it is a paid app. I would suggest to limit the appearances of the notability plus ads as it can be annoying, especially for those whk previously purchased the app.

I have used this app every day for the last 3 years and it has served me incredibly well for my degree. However, as of late, it has been atrocious. Opening PDF files that once ran smoothly now immediately lags the app, so much so that once I’ve finished scrolling through my pages it either crashes, or takes like 5s to scroll to where I want it to be, essentially rendering it useless for anything longer than a couple of pages. It now also ‘forgets’ which page I was last editing in a document. That is to say, now when I open a document it will open to page 1 rather than the page I was last editing on. Handwriting has also become near impossible, after a couple of minutes of nice handwriting, the app begins lagging for no apparent reason and my handwriting has a significant few seconds of lag before it shows up. Once this lag starts it applies to everything, switching pens, undoing, scrolling, page selection, etc. To fix this I have to fully shut down the app and reopen it. After reopening it often proceeds to crash once or twice before I can get back into it. This essentially renders writing notes in class useless. Additionally, the scrolling issues are often accompanied by artifacting, wherein the text on the screen is warped and improperly rendered or blurry. Not to mention, the battery usage is also out of this world now. I once loved this app but whatever it is, new updated on iPad or on the app itself, has made me reconsider just using pen and paper. The fact that they’re pushing their subscription model but the app barely works is incredibly disappointing.

Notability was amazing, I study for all my classes, took down hundreds of pages worth of notes, the features, design and usefulness were extremely helpful and allowed me to properly and effectively take notes, do assignments and record lessons comfortably. However. Day of my math exam, I went into notability, with the intentions of looking at my terms worth of math notes, only to be met with a loading screen. This didnt bother me much as I thought it would eventually load, but alas, it did not. Instead, it KICKED ME OUT of the app, and after multiple attempts of getting back in, turning on and off my ipad and a range of other things, i decided to delete it. I would have never delete it if i had known what was yet to come. Notability says that they back up your notes on iCloud, and I definitely have space so that wasnt the issue, but to my dismay, when i clicked back on (after a day of the app loading/ installing), My notes were nowhere to be seen. If it wasn’t assessment week and I didnt have every single note on there, I probably wouldnt mind, however, If i inevitably fail my math exam, I am blaming it on you notability. XOXO gossip girl 💋💋💋

I got this some time back to take notes as I was starting my business and needed some lessons. I stopped using this for the following: 1- Even if you are offline it at some stage wants to sync and you get the syncing logo on some of your notes and cannot access them. So when offline you loose access and when online it takes time when you start the app. So for taking quick notes it is not good. This is a pain in the rear when you are using this in a classroom setting mobile. 2- I bought this app for the macbook and iPad/iPhone. Now they have moved to a subscription based version as give you some of the old option for free. This would be great if they would not start adding features to the subscription and “taunt” you with not having this. If you come with a subscription but the first point is still there, I will not pay. I have moved to GoodNotes as Notes is not what I was looking for. I want to use this for paperless and journaling. The day planner template was great to use. But in GoodNotes you can just add any template (pdf) you want. The only thing I miss is the folders as implemented in this app. But the syncing at random is just making it useless. I love using my pencil for notes, and both the apps do good job.

Muito ruim. Vc está editando uma nota e ela começa a sincronizar com iCloud e vc fica impossibilitado de continuar editando, fora as vezes que vc precisa ter acesso a uma nota e ela também está sendo upada sendo que ela já está upada. Achei o aplicativo disfuncional. Para vc que esta em dúvida sobre o notability e goodnotes, vá para o goodnotes.

Porém para meu espanto estão me cobrando uma anuidade para manter as funções que eu já havia pago anteriormente. 📌 Sinto que fui roubado e enganado por esta empresa. pointless to switch to a subscription model for an app for taking notes.. the functions are so basic yet it's all about the money. as someone who bought the app before the switch: why should i pay 12 bucks a month just to get math conversion or a different theme? at least make it possible to buy the additional things without having to switch to these lame subscriptions!

Thank you for the update now my notes of an entire semester are just ruined. They basically all switched places and I have no idea what belongs to which slide all the efforts from an entire semester lost thank you for this.

Switching from a paid model to a subscription model over night, without keeping the functionality your users bought is a terrible business practice. I would never do business with this company again, because they are unreliable

I hope Ginger Labs realises a large number of their userbase are students who can’t afford subscriptions or will be turned off by yearly/monthly subscriptions EVEN if it is “only 15 dollars!” Many of my friends who use this app do not even have access to a method of online payment. By making their model a subscription based freemium app they’ve deducted value from a lot of their users. The most laughable fact is the statement they put out claiming this move isn’t for profit. It clearly is and the fact they haven’t owned it makes it worse. The most scummy part is how they’re only going to give people a year more to use this app with full features even when they paid full price for it in the past. Glad I avoided this app and it’s greedy devs and bought Goodnotes 5 instead.

Important note that Notability is updating to a freemium model where the free version will have limited number of edits allowed and no cloud syncing. Existing paid users get a year subscription but after that we will be forced to the free version unless we pay. Extremely predatory move by the devs especially for those of us who paid for what we thought was a 1-time payment. Will be moving to another app as soon as possible and I wouldn’t encourage anyone to use this app.

As of the new update to Notability (version 11.0), the developer has stated those who purchased the app before it was free will only have the functionality they paid for, for the next year, and will then be downgraded to the free version. This is against App Store guidelines section 3.1.2(a) which states that an app switching to a subscription model cannot remove features for those who have previously purchased the app.

I have used this app everyday for the last three years with no bad experiences. I have recommended this to countless people, many of which purchased I have always said I would be happy to pay more to use this app, 5/10 times what I originally paid but never as a subscription. Now I’ve got to move all of my uni notes to another app since the other options is to pay year after year until I give in and lose all my notes. As other have said this is against the app stores TOS, (3.1.2(a) is what has been quoted) since you are removing functionality that we have paid for (i.e. icloud upload which does not have to be maintained by you) I am not alone in these thoughts (check reddit) and please reconsider, or risk losing many loyal customers who would be happy to pay no end of money to improve the app and prevent stagnation. I fear I will no longer be able to trust you and your app, even if this is revoked. I mean, a monthly limit on edits, what were you thinking? If you have yet to purchase this app, dont bother. Ginger Labs clearly doesn’t respect its users and are just another team of money grabbers looking to scam you

I paid for the app for lifetime use, not until they decided to change the policy. (1) I paid for the mac app in the mac app store and they decided to combine with the ipad app and make it free for all existing users after a week. I would like to ask for a FULL REFUND on the mac purchase of notability. (2) I paid for the ipad app and now they make it free for all users, and move some of the features i had before to subscription-based. This VIOLATES the apple app store policy. I would like to ask for a follow up, on behalf of all notability existing users, and file a complain to Ginger Labs. I would like to ask for a full refund for the app and the handwriting recognition i purchased earlier. It is so unfair for all existing users and those who purchased the app, and now they are making it free for everyone.

I’ve bought the App and used it for a while. Starting from version 11.0, the developer states that users like me, who purchased the full function of the App before it was free, will only have the functionality they’ve paid for, for the next year, and will then be DOWNGRADED to the free version. If the develop won’t honor their obligation, which provide the complete function customers have paid for, I will definitely switch to other similar App options. Glad to see fierce competition among notes-related Apps in the market.

The software, which used to have a buyout system (including downloads as well as internal purchases), was updated to a free download + subscription system on November 1, 2021 after the update to the new version (but the exact change to the subscription system was not stated in the update announcement). For users who previously purchased under the buyout system, the software will only be offered as a free subscription for one year, after which an additional subscription fee will be charged. This behavior violates the purchase agreement already reached with the old users and is a commercial fraud. Moreover, as a note-taking software, the limited features of the free version without subscription include "limited note editing" and even drawing a point will be included in it, which means that the free users' access will be greatly restricted, so the software is also suspected of inducing consumption. Apple's official platform has the responsibility and obligation to punish such behavior.

Ich habe die Version für Mac und iPad gekauft und darf jetzt meine Vollversionen noch ein Jahr weiterbenutzen bevor ich meine bezahlte Features verliere oder für ein Abo zahlen muss. Ernsthaft? Es sollte eine Classic Version o.ä. für Vollzahler geben. Jeder, der etwas bei GingerLabs kauft muss sich bewusst sein, dass er nicht unbedingt behalten darf, für was er bezahlt hat. Mit solchen Entscheidungen verliert ihr in diesem Umfeld mehr als ihr gewinnt. Lest mal nach, wie man es machen sollte-> App Store guidelines section 3.1.2(a)

According to the eighth point of App Store Review Guide 3.1.2(a): If you want to change an existing app to a subscription-based business model, you must not subtract the main functions that existing users have paid for. For example, after introducing the subscription mode for new customers, users who have purchased Full Game Unlock should be able to continue to access the full version of the game. After the update, Notability was changed from buyout system to subscription system. Buyout users only get one year of subscription and cannot use all functions, which violates the above regulations. The developer of the app has announced that they will switch to a subscription model, and that if you have previously purchased the app for the full price, you will get 1 year of use before having basic features like iCloud syncing locked behind the subscription. I have purchased dozens of apps that have switched to subscription models and in almost all of the cases, the developers have chosen to honor customers who have already paid with lifetime licenses. The few that did not at least provided continued support for the features that were already in place before they switched to a subscription model. Regardless of how good the app is, I refuse to support scummy practices like this and will not give Ginger Labs another cent of my money, even if I move to a different subscription notes app.

I paid for the app and now you are forcing me to switch to a subscription model?! Are you out of your mind? This goes against Apple‘s guidlines, 3.1.2(a).

It’d be a shame if folks who paid for full features... were suddenly cut out. Surely the devs wouldn’t be that stupid, right? (Spoiler alert: nope)

Gingerlabs edited their app to be free and people who bought it will lose functions like unlimited favourite tools, unlimited edits, iCloud sync and more. At least give people back the features they already bought, otherwise I’ll leave notability and won’t be coming back and hope others will follow me.

Gebruik notability al jaren. Perfect programma, maar moet nu weer per jaar gaan betalen. Ik ga op zoek naar andere note app.

They are charging you a subscription fee for something you already own.

Bought this app a couple years ago so I wouldn’t have to pay annual and now they’re changing it, you should have given all old users the subscription forever and start charging new customers annually. Not happy, choose a different note taking app over this. This is one of my first reviews on here because it’s so scummy to change payment models like that.

DO NOT UPDATE if you still wanna have customized pen colours and many other features for your notes in the future. This new version is only allow existing users to enjoy the app until November 1, 2022. Afterwards, you can chose to downgrade to free version (no auto-backup/iCloud backup/customized pen colours and so on….) or pay 14.99 per year.

What? I literally paid for this note taking app, I’m glad it’s free now but where’s the features I bought? iCloud sync is now a monthly subscription feature? I’m so confused and extremely disappointed.

I’ve been using notability for almost a year now but since the new update there’re few things bug me the most, which are: 1) IOS system preferences - It always did not follow the system preferences although i already tick yes on that settings. - for example: the last time i use ipad at 10pm (dark mode), the following morning, all apps already in light mode but notability still in dark mode and most subjects title i couldn’t see. So i have to restart the app - This issue happen every single day. 2) Return button - sometimes the return doesn’t work, i have to press so many times but it still doesn’t work. So end up i just use eraser and then back to pen. It takes longer time if i use eraser, fix the return button please. 3) Scroll - When i try to scroll my notes, sometimes this apps doesn’t detect my hand gestures. What is up with that? It is so annoying and again i have to restart the apps. Because anything else doesn’t work when i click on it. 4) Powerpoint Detection - if i insert file in powerpoint format, it will not detect any of words in that slides only my handwriting. This is so annoying especially if i try to find keywords in few files Please fix all of this, this has happened to me since the new update from notability. Thank you in advance.

E’ una buona app per prendere appunti però ho riscontrato parecchi bug che vanno assolutamente corretti, soprattutto perchè ha un costo di quasi 5 Euro per comprarla, quindi il servizio deve essere Top, anche perchè è pieno di applicazioni gratuite per prendere appunti, sicuramente Notability deve avere qualcosa in più che spieghi la spesa di 4,50 Euro, altrimenti dovrò abbandonarla... Le icone per giustificare il testo a destra, a sinistra, al centro e giustificato non funzionano, quindi il testo rimane di default allineato a sinistra, questo è molto fastidioso!! non si può ne centrare ne giustificare... funzione fondamentale per prendere appunti!!! Avevo comprato anche l’applicazione per Mac, spendendo altri 4 Euro (Perchè si, non bastava comprare la versione per Ipadf, sul Mac ne devi compare un’altra..) e adesso non riesco più ad aggiornarla perchè diche che lo sviluppatore ha rimosso l’app dall’App Store. Cercando “Notability” sull’App Store dice che la devo ricompare per altri 4 Euro.. non posso accettare questo! Quindi per favore risolvete oppure cancello le app e passo alla concorrenza.

Premetto che uso l’app principalmente per evidenziare o annotare PDF (ovviamente è possibile importarli e scriverci sopra). Un grande difetto è che l’app non riconosce il testo del PDF, quindi si potrà evidenziare usando l’evidenziatore solamente come “pennello”, si possono fare delle linee dritte tenendo premuto, ma il fatto che Notability non riconosca il testo e che quindi non si può evidenziare direttamente del testo selezionandolo rallenta tantissimo lo studio. Oltre a questo problema si presentano spesso dei gravi bug: quando evidenzio e tengo la Pencil premuta per fare una linea dritta alcune volte compare una lente di ingrandimento per modificare di fino la linea appena creata, il problema sta nel fatto che quando stacco la Pencil dallo schermo questa lente di ingrandimento rimane e non riesco a toglierla se non scrivendo da un’altra parte o uscendo dal documento. Un altro bug che si presenta spesso è l’impossibilità di fare zoom-out dopo aver ingrandito una parte del documento per annotare qualcosa in piccolo, anche questa volta per risolvere il problema devo uscire dal documento e poi aprirlo di nuovo. Tutti questi piccoli problemi rendono frustranti l’utilizzo e lo studio attraverso questa applicazione. Ne sconsiglio l’acquisto per questo tipo di utilizzo.

Finalmente con l’ultimo aggiornamento sono state aggiunte alcune funzioni essenziali come la cancellazione parziale e la possibilità di creare forme in automatico (prima funzionava solo per rette e circonferenze). Tuttavia queste funzioni spesso non vanno a causa di alcuni piccoli bug che rendono in generale l’utilizzo un po’ troppo pastoso e poco fluido. Nella scrittura quando serve prendere un appunto velocemente, i bug rallentano completamente tale processo dovendo ricorrere troppo spesso alla gomma (Molto spesso scrivendo con la Pencil mi ritrovo a scrivere delle parole che mi vengono riconosciute come forme/scarabocchi in automatico quando non voglio). Inoltre con l’ultimo aggiornamento è stato ingrandita la possibilità di scorrere velocemente tra le pagine: ottimo se non fosse che ogni volta che ci si avvicina al bordo mentre si scrive a mano si tocca involontariamente ritrovandosi in una pagina completamente diversa. Manca ancora una funzione a mio avviso essenziale, che già molti altri competitor hanno da anni, ossia la possibilità di switchare tra diversi colori in modo ancora più rapido. Basterebbe implementare sulla barra degli strumenti 3/4 colori preferiti così da poter passare da un colore all’altro senza perdere troppo tempo. In generale non è una brutta app ma ha ancora molti bug che secondo me rendono l’uso generale un po’ troppo incerto.

Whenever i use a dictionary and browse it to the very bottom, it freezes and has to be restarted! In addition, typing experience isn’t the best! Whenever I tap on a text box, I intend to start editing from the exact spot I tapped, instead of bringing me to the very start of the text! This kills the flow of my editing and mess around with where I’m viewing! Also, selecting words in text boxes is super poorly designed! I usually have to re-select the word I want to select several times just because Notability thinks I want to select more than I have done! Idk if this happens to English texts but as a Chinese user editing Chinese texts, this area REALLY NEEDS TO IMPROVE! Last but not least, Notability often confuses tapping on existing text boxes with creating new text boxes! Again, idk if this is a Chinese-users-only issue, but it’s so apparent that it’s almost stupid! Sometimes I know I tapped exactly on the existing text boxes and it creates a new one :(( Notability is one of the best note taking apps out there and many students like me have benefited substantially because of this app, but it’s still far from perfect imo, I hope you guys can keep on fixing every little problem with this great app, and making it THE BEST note-taking app available :)

Can’t open this app after update iOS!!!

I got an iPad Pro for my studies in electrical engineering, and in the beginning, I was quite amazed by Notability. It is really self-explanatory, simple but powerful. But then after a while, I got jealous of some guys sitting in the row in front of me. The lecturer was drawing a circle, and Notability let me down since my circle would turn out like crap, whereas the guys in front of me (using OneNote and Goodnotes drew a ugly to-be circle that turned into the most perfect circle I have ever seen in my iPad Pro career. It was in the pause after when I started googling a bit only to find out that several (in my book) trivial issues with Notability (geometric drawing support, different eraser modes or possibility to rotate pages etc.) have already been shared on twitter with the developer in 2014!! That‘s four years ago! And still no results?! So, to potential buyers: DO NOT BUY, unless the aforementioned issues are not solved, because it will start to annoy you at some point. And given the fact, that the app costs 10 dollars, I would expect more for that money. Alternatives: OneNote is great (and free), I did not like GoodNotes so much because of the layout, but probably, I am already biased, so see for yourself.

Could you please give us more vibrant and flashy colors for highlighting? They are really poor... Please make the backup with iCloud Drive possible. And also importing documents from the Files app like for other cloud services, not only with drag and drop please.

dear Notability support team, i am writing to report an issue that occurred after migrating my notes to Notability Cloud. before enabling Notability Cloud, my notes displayed normally, and all handwritten annotations, highlights, underlines, and markings were correctly aligned with the underlying text. however, after the migration, i noticed that these annotations became significantly misaligned across many of my notes. the migration process has now fully completed, but the problem persists. the typed/PDF content appears unchanged, while the handwriting, highlighting and picturing layers have shifted from their original positions. this issue affects hundreds of my medical school notes accumulated over the past four years, making a substantial portion of my study materials difficult to review and use. the issue was not present before enabling Notability Cloud and only became apparent after the cloud migration. as these notes contain important academic materials, i am deeply concerned about the integrity of my annotations and would appreciate your assistance in determining whether this issue can be resolved or if my notes can be restored to their original state. thank you for your time and support. i look forward to your response.

I’ve used this app through the entirety of my undergraduate studies, and now in my doctoral studies. This is hands down the MOST USEFUL, time saving, and engaging learning application I’ve ever used. My Notability files contain years of text searchable, handwritten, typed, and audio recorded notes, that I regularly reference, which I can also access, edit, and study from my phone, computer, or iPad. Over the years, I’ve seen many features added that users have indicated a desire for, and the developers pay attention to what we want and expect out of an educational utility such as this, so it just keeps getting better. The ‘AI study’ feature that can generate quizzes and other study material from notes is extremely useful! Since AI proficiency and utility has reached the point it’s at currently, it would be game changing if Siri could be used as a verbal interface, with verbal proficiency equal to the Safari ‘reader,’ to interact with the AI generated study content (specifically the quizzes), enabling hands free use of Notability’s powerful AI study feature by individuals who need to maintain high productivity, but who have to spend a lot of time in the car. Having the ability to verbalize and articulate recalled study material conversationally, take the generated quizzes, or essentially ask the notes questions through Siri, would be exceptionally beneficial for professional development. I would certainly open my wallet and hand over money for something like that.

Loved this app from the moment I got it. First of all, even without the premium plan, you can still use most of the features simply by creating an account. This plan is known as lite. Secondly, there are loads of templates in the gallery made by our fellow users of Notability! And, if you’re looking for an app for simple drawing in your free time, this is a great app as well! I use this for sketches, notes and planning. I would recommend this app for students, teachers and even if you just need a fun way to take notes :) Aside from all the compliments I have for this app, I really think the tape function should have more colors, or at least let us customize our own colors. Of course, this is one of the many apps I use for note taking and drawing. If this is not the app for you, I also suggest using Goodnotes, or simply Apple Notes. But this is my personal favorite app for note taking. Overall, great app!

19년도부터 5년넘게 꾸준히 사용중인데. 한 3년차때부터 사용중에 앱 튕김 현상이 한번씩 일어납니다. 갑자기 화면이 멈춰버려서 홈버튼 눌렀다가 앱 들어가면 앱이 처음부터 다시 시작이 된다던지 어떨땐 아예 홈화면으로 지멋대로 나가지는 경우도 있구요. 이것만 아니면 참 좋은데 아쉽네요

저 진짜 노타빌리티 4년차인데,, 그동안 너무 잘 써오면서도 항상 아이클라우드 용량 이슈로 자꾸 파일이 로딩중이 반복되고, 파일 기다려도 로딩 안 되고 그래도 참으면서 썼는데요. 지금 용량도 넉넉한데 자꾸 필기하다가 화면 정지되면서 초기화면으로 돌아갔다가 다시 들어가야하고 들어가면 직전에 썼던 필기도 다 사라져있고.. 이거 고칠 수 없는 문제인가요

希望能夠增加筆記的尺寸，例如有需要的時候能夠不斷地將畫面往外擴展，不要只是限制在固定的畫布大小中，在畫心智圖的時候很容易被畫面的邊緣卡到，這點用起來有點麻煩

Since starting sixth form, I’ve needed a notes app that is both reliable and easy to use. Notability has allowed me to store my notes whether it’s handwritten, types, or even an uploaded picture from elsewhere and has allowed me to annotate freely. Dare I say I now have the neatest most organised notes out of everybody. Not only does it allow me to feel satisfied with my organisation, it also has unique perks like audio recording that I’ve never seen in other notes apps before. In addition, it also has templates that you can use to plan to do lists, weekly plans or even a Callander. The options are endless with incredible aesthetic ranges that most definitely will fit your vibe. However there are also existing colouring templates or even interactive worksheets uploaded by existing users so everyone is able to share and use each other’s works. But most importantly. It’s incredibly simple to use coming from somebody that is awful with anything technology. Notability is something I will always recommend to people starting college or uni because it’s so accessible. In my opinion the subscription is also incredibly fair. It is affordable and can guarantee excitement when taking notes.

잘 쓰고 있는 학생입니다. 근데 계속 생각드는 개선점은 정말 단 하나입니다. 부디….사진 고정 기능을 넣어주세요. 페이지에 사진 삽입해서 필기하다보면 계속 사진의 다른 부분을 필기하다가 건드리게 되니까 ‘사진 선택’기능이 계속 활성화돼서 사진 옮겨지고 그래요. 무슨 말인지 아시죠..? 그래서 사진에 필기할 때 사진이 옮겨지지 않도록 삽입한 사진을 “고정”하는 기능이 필요해요. 부디 빠른 시일 내에 업데이트해주시길 부탁드립니다 감사합니다🙇🏻‍♀️

I have been using Notability since my college days, and as a law student, it has been an invaluable tool for reading cases and making notes. However, I often find that PDF documents have limited space for annotations, and adding a new page below is not always convenient for reviewing my remarks. I would love to see a feature that allows users to extend the page sideways, creating additional space for annotations next to each paragraph rather than at the bottom of the page. This would make it much easier to keep notes organized and contextually relevant. Overall, I am very satisfied with the app’s functionality!

I love this app, I’ve been using it for a few years and it’s the only app I’ve ever left a written review on because I just think that it is such a good app and deserves a good review. I love that there are templates that let me take unique notes and that I can organize everything. There’s so many useful features like the math conversion and the learn features. I like that I can easily import documents and large files to directly annotate and take notes, it is super easy to do and doesn’t take a long time to load the imported files. It’s really useful to be able to access my notes across devices and without internet as well so I can review anywhere any time. One thing I hope to see from this app in the future is an expansion on the AI Learn features, there is so much potential for this feature. A few suggestions, it would be nice to be able to easily access the material generated by learn in one separate area instead of having to open each not individually. Perhaps a separate section that contains all the generated Learn materials from the individual notes so you can easily view and access them. Furthermore I would love more options of study features similar to those of apps like Quizlet or Knowt, that way instead of exporting the AI generated material to a different app everything could be done on Notability. The Learn feature has so much potential and I can’t wait to see where it goes. I highly recommend this app.

I’ve been using Notability since college and now I use it for my personal and professional life. Most importantly, I’ve come to rely on it for therapy - where I don’t have to ‘think’ in the general sense. Of course, I’m challenged to think and talk through issues, but that’s where notability comes in. I can give 100% of my focus to each session and draw placeholders on the screen when something enlightening, challenging, etc. - is discussed during recording. My therapist no longer needs to wait as I take notes - I’m a very slow writer - resulting in far more dialogue each session. Later, I’ll review placeholders with the benefit of experiencing the tone of how and why something was said. It’s phenomenal. May I request the addition of a zoom percentage feature to the main notepad screen? When writing, my ‘ink’ can be too thick or too thin making it difficult to maintain the same level of penmanship continuity, regardless of the different pen sizes. I know this is nit picky, but having clean notes to start each day makes for a productive day. A percentage feature would save time and a little frustration trying to match cleanliness of previous notes. We’ve all been there when looking back at notes saying, “I really like how I wrote that! It started me off on the right foot and really made for a productive day.” It’s truly self-motivating. Thanks for creating Notability. It has been life changing.

I use to like this app a lot and I sponsored all the iPads at home and at work. Sadly, the transcription function is overrated. I live in Singapore (south of Malaysia) and I don’t understand why every transcription is in Malay when I spoke in English. Not Singlish, but proper English. I am disappointed to say the least, given that I am one of the first few to raise this issue up when the transcription function was launched. Despite this, this problem still remains unresolved. I really hope that someone at the notability / Gingerlab Mangement can reach out to me and resolve this quickly. I have downloaded the App also for my son and every staff in my Company and I am beginning to feel the costs are wasted. I await your advice, please.

The actual app itself is flawless, its incredibly useful to write and draw with and has plenty of useful features to use at your disposal not to mention its incredibly easy to use as well, me and my friends have used it a lot for my uni work and have never been disappointed, the one thing i would love to see in the toolbox however is a fill tool so u are able to draw abstract shapes free hand and fill them in with a dedicated tool. Also the ability to select an object using the selection tool and change its x and y scales, i love how when u change its size the overall dimension are locked and scaled down accordingly but it is limited to that only, if points on the selection box were added on the selection box in the centre of the edges to change the x and y scales of a selected item would definitely give a bit more freedom, a bit like how Microsoft word selection works, but keeping the dimensions locked when using the corners, both of these would add more degrease of freedom when editing, note taking and doodling

Notability has been my go-to note-taking app for quite some time, and I've appreciated its features and ease of use. However, what dampened my experience was the sudden and drastic change in the app's design, which came without any prior notice. The new interface took some time to get used to, and it felt like a significant departure from the user-friendly layout I was accustomed to. This abrupt shift disrupted my workflow and, based on conversations with fellow users, affected many others as well. While change can be a good thing, it needs to be executed with consideration for the user base. In this case, it seemed as though the update was implemented without taking into account the preferences and needs of long-time users. I hope that the developers will consider offering users an option to revert to the previous design or at least provide more customization options in the future. Notability's functionality remains strong, but the abrupt design change has left me feeling somewhat unsettled about its direction. In conclusion, Notability is still a capable note-taking app with powerful features, but the recent redesign without prior notice has impacted its user experience. Here's to hoping for a smoother transition and better communication with users in future updates.

아이패드 백업해서 아이폰이랑 연동되게 해놨는데 갑자기 안열려서 앱 업데이트 했더니 안열리던 파일 다 날라갔어요 구글드라이브 이중 백업을 해놨으니 망정이지 안해놨으면 파일 다 날라가는건데 진짜 개빡치네요 돈 내고쓰는건데 백업 연동 시스템 이딴식으로 만들어놓으실거면 그냥 없애시는게 나을듯; 파일 없어져서 깜짝놀랐네

The most useful feature for me is the "Image to Ink Conversion," but I believe this functionality can be further enhanced. As a software engineer, this feature helps me convert responses from chatGPT or Bard into editable graphical text. However, some text conversions are a bit challenging, such as imperfect rendering of characters like 'a' and 't.' I suggest incorporating a bit of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) algorithm into the "Image to Ink Conversion" to improve the accuracy, especially in recognizing A to Z ink conversions. Additionally, I think it would be perfect if there were options to adjust objects, allowing for "Move Up One Level" or "Move Down One Level." This feature would help me alter the display order of two objects, enhancing the overall user experience.

I’ve been using the app for years and I really love the latest upgrade that includes transcripts because I often have to record meetings with clients and I don’t have to spend too much time trying to take detailed notes. Having the transcript is really helpful and keeps me from having to go back and listen to the entire audio especially when you have a fairly long audio file. That said, there are a few features that I would love to see in Notability, and these include layers, tags, and the ability to create outlines or a table of contents of the pages in the document. I use a digital planner as well as a multi section notebook for work, and only being able to bookmark pages is not helpful when I have a lot of notes. I would love the ability to actually add the page with a label into an outline that I could click on to quickly navigate to that page like you are able to do in Goodnotes. This is similar for digital planning when I add extra template pages to various sections of the planner they often are not hyperlinked the way the standard pages are, and therefore makes it difficult to sometimes find those pages, and so having the ability to outline, or even tag, the page would make it easy to navigate to. Lastly, because I digitally plan as well as do a lot of notetaking for coursework having layers would be helpful because then I could have a layer with notes or annotations or stickers that can be turned on and off as needed like you are able to do in Noteful and ZoomNotes

Hello I have been using this app since 2018 until now. Since then until now, I genuinely thank the app developer for making my life as a student so easy. The app makes note taking to be very efficient. I haven’t experienced any errors when I am downloading pdfs and editing those files, merging files and adding pictures to the note. Also, the new function called ‘library’ where users can download and upload templates is very useful as I can search and get templates that I want. I especially like the fact that notability backs up files really fast, because whenever I edit something and check my drive (I made files to be backed up in my drive folder), after a few seconds I can see the changes already being uploaded in the drive. However, as user who truly wishes the app to develop further and achieve even more success, I would like to give some suggestions that I hope developers can ponder about. First of all, the latest update is amazing, the user interface improved so much and it looks really decent, but I am experiencing lagging issues (sometimes when I write something it appears after 2 to 3 seconds). It seems to get especially worse when I am using split screen view. Second of all, when selecting page options to share the note, instead of making user to select/deselect pages, I think it will be better to allow the user to type the page range. For example, when I want to select page 10 to page 50 from a 200 page file, it gets very tiring to press all the pages from 10 to 50.

The app is very glitchy. Whenever i switch from the eraser option back to pen, it doesn’t work and I’m stuck on eraser mode. As well as then, when I’m trying to switch colours it doesn’t let me. I also can’t rename documents because the function won’t work. I shouldn’t have to keep exiting the app to get it to work again. I may have to subscribe to another note taking app instead, because I refuse to pay that much money for it to glitch like this, which is a shame because I really liked this app :(

🥲Update: can we please have the option to choose color for tape covering function? Sometimes the white stripe is not popping out very much. It is very useful for us, students. PLEASEEEEE!,!!!! I had been using notability throughout my college years, and even during my grad school. I love how you can record audio and track/syn with your note. But if it has these following three things, it will be perfect. 1. We want more pens. For ipad users, we want to keep changing the colors of our pen, and we Know that we have space on our interface. Please put 2 more pen location. Or at least one more. It will help so much with taking notes. Please. 2. We wish we can add mp3 files for the audio please. We can record through our ipad, but during class, we have to actually write down our notes with our apple pencils etc, and it make a huge noise when we later listen to those recorded audios. Therefore we (manyyy students) usually take our ph and put it near the teacher, so that we can hear his voice clearer. And we all wish to be able to put those files back to the lectures note because when we re listen to the lecture, man.., it help a lot man. Please. 3. Make a book-like format option. It is understandable that you (the notability app developer) has your own style but many of us, students, want to make books like files, to not confuse our notes. The current format looks ok but once you had been using notability for more than 2 years, it become a mess. Please please please. Thank you.

Ich lasse mich selten zu Rezensionen hinreißen, aber für diese App mache ich das mit Freude! Ich probiere nun schon länger komplett papierlose zu arbeiten, und habe ein paar „ganz nette“ Programme ausprobiert. Evernote ist für Handschriftliche Notizen seit dem letzten Update für mich so gut wie unbrauchbar geworden (iPad Pro), Nebo ist ganz gut, bietet aber längst nicht so viel wie diese App. Ablage läßt sich super sortieren, so dass alles schön übersichtlich bleibt. Der JahresPlaner, den man dazu kaufen kann ist unfassbar.... er ersetzt mir den analogen Moleskine digital, was ein echter Benefit ist! ❤️ Notizbücher ( mit Dots Papier und anderen Linierungen) sind ebenfalls zusätzlich integrierbar, ebenso pdf’s, die unglaublich komfortabler bearbeitet werden können. Die Fähigkeiten des Stifts kommen voll zum Einsatz, super Reaktion, klasse Schreiberlebnis. Audioaufnahmen von Gesprächen parallel zu Notizen möglich, zum Nachhören. Absolut gut funktionierende Handschriftenerkennung!! Intuitives Bearbeiten von Skizzen, Fotos können überall zu den Notizen und in den Planer per Drag and drop hinzugefügt werden. Export problemlos in verschiedenen Formaten zu verschiedenen Apps möglich. Es gäbe sicher noch mehr, aber hier und jetzt von mir eine ganz klare und begeisterte Empfehlung. Bitte weiter so, das ist eine traumhafte App. P.S.: Das Design der App wird immer besser, ebenso die Funktionen. Eine steile Kurve nach oben, seit ich die App nutze. Top, Kompliment an die Entwickler.

노타빌리티의 놀라운 발전을 보며, 주변에 많이 추천 했습니다. 그런데 최근 늘어난 기능만큼 buffering이 매우 급증 했습니다. 파일 로딩이 안되고 파일이 확대 축소과정에서 깨집니다. 특히, 포인터 기능은 사용하는 순간 먹통이 되는 것이 몇번째 인지 모르겠습니다. 이런식이면 포인터 기능을 갖춘 good note 보다 나은 점이 있다고 볼수 있는지 의문입니다. 기본 에 충실하지 못하면 아무리 다양한 기능을 갖추더라도 user 들이 떠날 것입니다. Notability을 응원하는 마음으로 몇자남깁니다. 내년에도 많은 user들이 notability를 구독하기를 바랍니다

I loved this application due to its really good feel while writing. It really gives the feeling of writing on a paper but when i came to know about one thing, it really made me sad. There should a much required feature which is currently missing. We should be able to at-least switch between dark and light backgrounds. If i have chosen black paper and white pen i should be able to turn the background white and the written material should turn black automatically once the background will be changed but the Highlighters should remain same. This feature is very much required because it will help to keep your paper dark to protect your eyes and also provide easy feature to turn the background white if one needs to printout the written material. Because to print the pages with dark background doesn’t make sense. I request you please provide this feature so that we can change the paper backgrounds easily otherwise we have to individually select the writing to change its color after changing the background. Grundsätzlich bin ich sehr zufrieden mit der App. Ich mache jeden Tag in der Schule mehrere Stunden Notizen und kann mich nicht beschweren. Auch das neue Update mit dem Pencil ist sehr nützlich. Dennoch würde ich mir folgende Verbesserungen wünschen: -Ein Radiergummi der Passend zum neuen Pencil die Schrift oder das gezeichnete nur leicht aufhellt bzw. transparenter macht oder nur die oberste Tintenschicht entfernt - 1 Layer Marker (wenn ich etwas mit Boxen markiere und die Box ausfüllen muss gibt es unschöne Farbunterschiede wenn man über die Linien malt - Bookmarks auf einem Abschnitt einer Seite z.B. Inhalt eines Kastens (Ganze Seiten kann man sich bereits markieren) von denen man hin und her springen kann - Hinzufügen eines Datums wenn man einen neuen Abschnitt einer Notiz beginnt bzw. die Arbeit Tage später wieder aufnimmt - Wichtig : 1. schreiben mit Tastatur und Textboxen überarbeiten der minimale Spaltenabstand ist viel zu hoch und mit Tastatur wird notability so nicht nutzbar. 2. Überarbeitung wenn man Bilder von ABs einfügt sollen diese in den Hintergrund verschoben werden. Nicht als PDF Hier könnte man vielleicht einfach mehrere Schichten von einer Seite haben z.B eine für Bilder eine für Notizen etc. die Mann dann auch verstecken kann. Außerdem wäre es komfortabel, wenn der Night Mode ab einer bestimmten Uhrzeit automatisch an und aus geht. Es sind nur ein paar kleine Verbesserungsvorschläge welche den Workflow aber sehr verbessern würden. Alles in allem eine sehr gute App. Wenn man diese Vorschläge noch Umsätzen würde wäre sie wohl Perfekt.

Due to the new update, it has become less functional and usable. I can’t believe that this new UI was approved in the first place. I’ve been trying to get used to it for weeks and I don’t think it’ll ever grow on me. Below are a few things that I want the team to fix or to bring back: (1) Give me back the favorite toolbar - I so badly need it for note-taking in my uni. Do you think I have time to do so many clicks during a lecture? (2) Why a floating toolbar - Just why did you remove the solid toolbar? (3) Icons look too much alike. (4) Ability to customize the order of tools in the toolbar - I don’t need pencil. (5) Can’t tap on a file while renaming it - I can’t copy the current file name before renaming it. (6) Duplicate names - Can we have file uniqueness inside a subject only? I have lots of subjects with Tutorial x, Lab x files inside. It’s so annoying that I have to name them differently though they are from different subjects. I hate this update so much and I’m seriously considering to switch to another note-taking app. A note for the developers, if it ain’t broke, please don’t fix it.

왜 있던 기능들을 다 없애나여?업데이트 할거면 좋게 만들던가 기능들 다 불편하게 만들어버리니까 노타빌리티 쓰기싫어지네요. 멀쩡이 있던 즐겨찾기 기능 없애버리고, 펜도구 옆에 있던 뒤로가기버튼은 옮기지도 못하게 오른쪽에 고정시켜버리고 진짜 가용성 제로네여. ui 만든사람은 일주일이라도 직접 써보고 업데이트를 하신건가요? 직접 써봤다면 이렇게 만들진 않았을거 같은데요. 있던 기능에서 조금만 변형한것도아니고 진짜 이해가 안되는 업데이트에요. ui를 개떡같이 만들어도 이걸 통과시킨 윗선들도 문제임. 진짜 여기저기 노트앱중에 짱이라고 소문내고 다녔는데 다신 추천 안할듯여.

Notability is a great app but it has very big problems with Hindi fonts. Reason:- when we make long notes of 8-10 pages in Hindi fonts , all fonts of Hindi is Unrecognisable and notes gets wasted . However, 3-4 pages notes in Hindi is supportable but when we just going on to make page no 5 to 6 or so on then all Hindi fonts gets useless. हिन्दी भाषा में टाइप किया हुआ 5 से 6 पेज से ज़्यादा का नोट्स बनाने पर, सारे पेज का font बुरी तरीक़े से ख़राब हो जाता है। हमे पूरी उम्मीद और विश्वास है कि आप इस नाज़ुक समस्या का जल्द से जल्द समाधान निकाल कर हिन्दी भाषा के तकनीकी विकास मे वृद्धि करके , भारत के एक बहुत बड़ी आबादी को मदद कर इस महत्वपूर्ण app(notability) को प्रयोग करने और पूर्ण लाभ लेने मे त्वरित व विनम्र सहयोग करेंगे। Request:- It’s humble & important request to notability developers team please fix this this issue as soon as possible and make this great app(notability) use for all. if possible, then try make fonts supportive like EVERNOTE App. Evernote support very very well Hindi fonts but not a good app for handwriting. In India so many serious students and working man facing this problems with Hindi fonts issues in notability app . They can’t make any longer Typing notes✍️ with Hindi fonts (greater than 5-6 pages).
