The app could have gone far, the fact a user can move up and down the neck is terrific. I would rather see an app like this that anchors at nut where the head stock is and has frets sized respectively. Obviously you have to reduce size, but for heaven sake distances have to be proportional from fret to fret. Now that I would buy, I bought this piece of 2nd rate dev crap and I am actually amazed it still loads on current ios. Doubt that would still apply if implementation were par for the cours(e) and PocketGuitar had been a playable iGuitarAPP. Peace, Halmummy

Thought this might be a cool app but it would never download. Checked other apps and all downloaded just fine. Kind of disappointed I wasted a $1.

Using iOS 7, clicked "UPDATE ALL" and am now stuck with a non-working app. Quick question, why release this update if you knew it had stability issues? I bought this app WAY back when it came out. And am now stuck with an icon, crashes upon opening. I'd also update that first picture so it's no longer an iPhone 3G being used. Fix all MAJOR known bugs before pushing out an update. This is just unacceptable.

Latest update crashes immediately on 5S with 7.1.2. Please fix!

The strings just don't strum. It stops. Also you can barely but two fingers on it. The sad part is that this app is so old the maker may not fix it

I used to have a lot of fun with this app but after redownloading it it seems all the strings are swapped into the opposite location they should be. High notes where low notes should be and the pitch gets lower as you go down the neck? Wait for them to fix this before wasting your time.

It won't let me make chords with two fingers on the fretboard. This needs to be fixed especially since it's a paid app

When I downloaded this app a while back, it was awesome. But I hadn't really used it since I updated my iPhone 4 to the latest software and now I can't play chords because the multi-touch interface is limited to two fingers! What happen to being able to use four fingers to hold a chord AND a fifth finger to strum?! I don't know if this should be a complaint for the makers of this app or Apple

I was really excited bout this app. The touch control is frustrating to say the least. Even the simplest songs are difficult. That's the only minus. Other wise it's great. The touch control must be fixed it confuses strings and frets and is frustrating

Impossible to chord. Give the .99 to a local charity. It will do more good.

I got this app cause I liked the thought of a bunch of different types of guitars and I was hoping it would show you chords so you could teach yourself to play. Desprately needs an update.

This app does not work unless u have 100% battery i have 85% and the strings will just not listen.

It makes guitar sounds. There is no way to actually make a chord and strum while trying to hold your Ipod. You'll wind up messing with it for a couple of minutes then forget about it.

Like EVERY review has said. Need incredibly small fingers. I mean it's okay for a quick riff if you're on the go... But not for anything else

I should have listened. Everyone who loves this app has super small fingers. Can't play chords and it's hard to mute. Why did I waste a dollar I didn't have on this. I'm a dope. I like the pedals and stuff but my god how atomic Tom does it is beyond me. Over it after two minutes.

This app would be great if you have tooth picks for fingers. I don't and you probably don't either. Also there is no control over the sustain of the notes especially on the distorted electric sounds so playing notes all ring out together causing a big wash of NOISE. Thought it would be cool and fun. It really is good for a 2 second "look what my phone can do " demo for your friends and that's about it. Bummer.

The only reason I'm giving this one star is because it should have at least a few notes on how to play some songs or songs where the strings turn green while it's playing by them selfs so we can learn the song and that way we can play it without the demo or step by step guide if everyone else thinks the same thing post it on your review so they can do an update since its impossible to play a song if you don't know how to use this app and if you do an update don't try to charge for each song like other developers

Ok so I've been playing guitar for about a year and thought it would be cool to have a guitar on my iPod. I found this and thought it would be awesome!! I got it and ended up hating it. Thinking about deleting it. Wish I never spent my money on it...

I’m a professional guitarist who teaches, and I have toured many countries, so it’s reasonable for the casual observer to assume I play the guitar a lot. It’s also reasonable to say that I think about the guitar a lot. In the same vein, one may correctly assume that I wish I could play the guitar all the time. PocketGuitar allows you to play guitar when one isn’t right next to you. Granted, I would advise against using this - or really, any other app while, say, driving. But if you want to run down an idea while waiting in line at the bank or the coffee shop, you can - thanks to this app. I should also mention that even though I have perfect pitch, PocketGuitar is tremendously useful. Sometimes you need to see the grid, you know? That way, when you get back to a non-virtual instrument, the ideas are fresh in your mind. I wish PocketGuitar had been around when I was daydreaming in high school... actually, no. I’m fine with the way my grades turned out with fewer distractions. Highly recommended!

This is a visually pretty guitar app with decent sounds and even some playability. I’m amazed it’s still on the App Store and not broken by iOS updates. However: It’s never going to be like a real guitar. You have to play with it from the perspective of knowing and accepting this. The menus are clumsy (tiny targets, and you have to hold & drag, like the behavior of classic Mac OS 7 and earlier menus). Also, as of today (January 6th, 2020), I’m noticing note fluctuation bugs. I have to restart the app to get it to stop doing this. It seems to be some mode that particular samples get stuck in where it flips back and forth between the normal sustained note sample and something else (maybe a different sample or playback rate). I assume this is due to iOS changes because it never did this to me before (though I don’t use the app much at all, I think I would’ve noticed it years ago if it happens this quickly in a session of use). It’s kind of an iOS classic, and it still works, but it could stand to be updated.

I have had this app for many years - iPhone 4, iPhone 5s, and now, on my iPhone 7 Plus - it still works! What I like most is being able to change the tunings to experiment - especially open tunings and even “custom tuning”. With built- in effects, it can real wail (reverb, distortion)! You can hold and bend notes, etc. Great sustain. Fun to jam on - especially when you don’t have a guitar handy. You want chords? Play chords. This is for guitarists - not a “toy”. You have all 6 strings and 7 frets - strum or hammer-on or both. Seems to work well with the larger sized screen of my 7 plus. I hold it just like a guitar. Crazy!

I like picking don’t get me wrong but It would be cooler to be able to play chords

One of the very first guitar simulations I bought for iOS, which is still after all this time is only designed to run on the iPhone (app does not take advantage of the iPad size difference). There are several other teriffic apps which could be called guitar simulations, for example "Steel Guitar" by Yonac, and "Pearl Guitar" (which has fallen into disrepair and is no longer updated by the developer). These were designed to take advantage of the larger format available on the iPad and both have many more options. Please update this app and make funding the development part of an in-app purchase! Please!

I just wanted an app that allowed me to play on a guitar. You can't really play like you would be able to a real guitar, but I can write basic riffs on it. It also allows you to change the tuning you're playing in. You can change the strings individually too. It's got a guitar, bass, uke, and some pedals with effects like wah, distortion, and echo. If that's what you're looking for, this app is perfect.

I've gotten so many people turned onto this app, I'm known as the dude that rocks the iphone guitar app. I can shred the bass with my video-game style thumb tapping, just turn off strumming. Turn hammer notes off and stretch the frets. It's way easier for solos

Easily the best and most realistic guitar app on the App Store for the past many years. I see a lot of reviews expecting this to be a toy or game app. There are already a lot of those apps on the market, where you play a guitar hero-type game and play along with a song or solely an image of a guitar and you tap on the strings and they automatically play chords for you. This is app DOES NOT do this. This app is a guitar simulator. I even saw reviews with 1 star stating that "this app is broken, you press on a fret and it just mutes it"... If you have ever played a real guitar, strum it, and then lightly tap on the strings... Well they are muted. Anyways, this app is wonderful. Obviously fret/screen size is an issue, so you cannot play a song that is all over the fret-board. But I can play many songs, all the way through, with fairly good accuracy with this app and I definitely get a similar feeling to playing real guitar. It's great for plucking out chords or playing with simple melodies or scales. The honest truth: it's a great guitar simulator trying to deal with screen real-estate problems and you pretty much HAVE to be able to play guitar to use this app because it's truly a guitar simulator.

I love this app and it would be amazing if you made some updates to where you can play a mode where you have to play certain notes, and you should put other virtual instruments because what if somebody wants to play a metal song but you cant get it a violent pitch? This app is amazing!!

You guys should add a feedback or reverb option. I was using this as a midi and the guitar has a like a reverb and feed back so it doesnt sound that great.

Really guys! This app is amazing!! The only thing id recommend is having it easier to do chords. Other than that... AWESOME

I have to say, for the price of this app, it's great! For a buck you get guitars with effects, a bass and a ukulele! What's not to like? It's good for when I'm bored or want to show a cool riff to someone, or really just practice when I don't have a guitar available. It's seriously one of my favorite apps, and I'm not paid by these guys at all. Try it. It's a buck!

I didn't want to like this app but this is by far the best feeling guitar app, neck feels natural though I wish the scrolling mechanics were more intuitive.. A lockable sidebar is better than a crappy spiral.. But if it doesn't have none of the above mentioned it can't be considered a legitimate music app, it's just a toy.. A great sounding, great feeling toy mind u but still a toy.. Idk if its cause of the price or what not but u need to put midi/audio export on this even if as an in app purchase guys.. Both surprised and disappointed :/

This app is really great, I use it for a long time and even played really hard songs with it!:) But I have an iPad too and would like to see a version for iPad.

I love this app now I can take my guitar where ever I go! I wish it was easier to change frets but that would be hard to make on an app. I love the effects and different guitars! And I love the bends hamer ons and pull offs!

They've added more instruments and effects. It's a good toy to mess around on. The scrolling function is still pretty slow and unnatural.

Now I can play my guitar everywhere

Easy to play "Nothing Else Matters" and other songs by Metallica and even some SOAD songs like "Arials". I live playing this app in the car when I dont have my guitar around!

The distortion is not working on lead guitar and acoustic electric. Please fix this because i used to use this all the time. It's still a very good app anyways!!

Would be even better if this app had a recording feature. Update: The best guitar app on the App Store next to iShred and the most realistic guitar app I have ever used.

I like how it gives you seceral options with effects like delay, chorus and distortion. This app has made strides but what it exceeds in ingenuity it lacks in convenience like being able to record with playing. Get that feature added and you have a pretty solid app.

Can't bar chords. And another thing is that the A string seems a bit warped sounding.

Good enough that I can check chords if sings in the fly. I only wish you can shift the keys as if you have a capo on the fly as well.

I am a huge guitar player and felt like i was taking a risk when i bought this app, because i figured it would end up being hard to use, and a very limited app. I was nothing short of astounded when i tried it out. Easily worth 5 bucks. I recomend it to any player
