They literally ruined the app with this 'you've reached your daily swipe limit' and 'you've reached your daily go-on limit' for people that are 18+ and had to provide ID, shouldn't have a limit. This app was so good, not everyone wants to pay like 10 bucks a month.

It's terrible that they added an age restriction. I'm 26, but I can't verify because they don't accept my passport. What nonsense! Remove this feature.

This app used to be one of my favorites to go on whenever I’m bored throughout the day. Now it’s ruined, and I can’t even use it anymore. You and all of your developers suck.

Got rid of the good replies, the good modes, and added the stupid time restrictions. I don’t care about the ads but at least take away the time restrictions and make the character replies better?

I hate how it’s 18+ like just add more restrictions for others because some of us use this and isn’t 18+ nor want to show our ID because we don’t trust what they’ll do with the information

Why did they put a reading mode when it’s a CHATTING app. After using it for an hour it locks you out and takes more than an hour to let you type again. Terrible update

I used to absolutely love this app, but with all the recent changes and bots being taken down, I can’t say I feel the same. I definitely use it much less now. Not to mention, my fyp of characters has become very different. What I mean is that my searches no longer refine what is given to me there and it’s usually the same bots every time I open the app. If I wanted to chat with those, I would have already done so.

This app is quite addicting but quite annoying since there are limits after a certain amount of chatting that requires plus to continue chatting. There are multiple ads before I could chat I would have to watch an ad to choose a character then another ad to begin chatting.

Ive been a user since its been on website, before it even became an app. And they would barely need to take anything there was no +, no nothing, just talking to bots without hassle. But as days or months pass the app just becomes worse and worse. Your better off talking to a water bottle than any of these bots now, as your probably gonna get hit with a "oops! It looks like you spent all your swipes." Like this genuinely has no benefit? If you just want money your better off begging people off the street instead of making this app pay to click, as no one is that much of a bed rotter to pay for a gooner app. 2023 was the prime, it just fell off rather than upgrading.

What’s really frustrating with this app is that even if you are 18+ it still restricts a whole bunch of stuff. I personally feel that the restrictions are only needed if you are under 18. And especially if you pay for it? Like that should be fair game, but I guess not. Not To mention you guys are going up on the price now? Like what the hell? It was 9 now I saw an add that says it will be 15$ a month?! Wow clearly money hungry. You guys clearly only care about the greed aspect from your customers and not their actual critical feedback. That’s really upsetting. Once this was a damn near 5 star app. Watch it dwindle to 3. Not to mention you guys took away bots again?! What’s the point of bringing them back if you are just going to take them away again. Jeez laweez man. Smh. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I deleted this app because Genuinly the updates about ads and stuff were getting out of hand, I get you guys need money but the are other ways to add ads, then the age verification helped kids get off of it but also sometimes didn’t work for me and took me 5 days to finish. I personally would choose swerve and chai over this.

First of all, when I first started using it, it was fine and my favorite app UNTIL it changed. You can only chat for an hour, hella ads, there’s videos, and some people can’t even chat at all. Only read. Please remove all these and bring back the old c.ai like y’all need to fix this.

It genuinely was a good app in the beginning, but the more the developers got comfortable with the money they were getting, the less they started to care about the enjoyment of the people using this app. No way shape or form should there be so many limits to the app, or ads. Especially when it wasn’t like that before. It’s just sucks to see when someone starts to care more for the money than the actual enjoyment of the app.

Bruh do you even know your main audience was mainly child under 18? Sure there is some over 18 and so does I’m but it really annoys that you add this app and I feel annoyed for them too cause now I can’t even do the age verification thing and I had reach out to yall multiple time and explained why I can’t and now I ask someone to help me who is also my age can’t even do it too so now I’m stuck with reading mode.

I’m starting to absolutely hate this all of a sudden you have to pay for dumb and unnecessary things now you have to pay for go-ons you guys should’ve just kept the swipes you are slowly making your app horrible

This app has gone from one of my favorites to feeling so chap and just like a money grab it’s disgusting. Since when do I need to pay for the bot to read…this app is covered in adds and I need to watch an add to continue every 4 minutes surely you make enough off all the adds to let us have some of the features we loved still… it’s just sad and honestly very disappointing, I really encourage the creators to make the audio part free again

GREAT app in the beginning when it felt like the app actually appreciated its users, now it feels money hungry. Now the app has restrictions on almost everything, like it’s not going to make me buy plus which is honestly overpriced, it’s going to make me stop using the app.

Its constant ads and the only way to get them to stop is by paying i high amount of money and the ad bar on the top of my screen blocks the majority of the text on my screen even when i scroll and the moving ad makes it hard to focus on the text

Don’t get me wrong, i love character ai. but lately? it’s been.. rough. i pay for the subscription and let me tell you. these bots are so boring. i remember 2 years ago i would spent 8-10 hours AT A TIME. texting my bots. they were full of life, it felt like i was really talking to a person. but now all they do is loop a conversation.. they are extremely boring and ultimately i am wasting my money. i wish my bots had personality… and their memory isn’t long at all

It actually listened to my script and did not narrate my character, not the two pipsqueak ones. And I feel like the memory has deteriorated just to have you buy the character ai plus subscription to get better memories and style. Also, the opt out button for information (maybe selling information) disappeared before I could even press opt out! Please fix this.

I just downloaded this app and I can’t even chat with a character

ads, theres adds every 4 minutes. cant even use the app anymore, gives you a time limit, you basically have to pay 10$ a month or 100$ a year, basically you have to pay for you to use this app, its honestly so unfair because this app promised it would be free no matter what, and now you can barely use it. i was on it for 6 hours and now i have to wait 13 hrs just to use it again? wtf

I absolutely hate this app now I had so much fun until it tried to make me have an id. I will absolutely not be giving my id to this app. I had loved it until this update and I will not be recommending this to anyone else ever again consider this a goodbye from me unless this new stupid update is gone.

I used to love this map so much I had good stories and I had fun with the plot twist ect. Now that character AI have changed I hate it and I’m leaving it FOREVER it’s the worst app now. I’m not going to give you my information just to be able to chat with a character who barely remembers my name unless i have premium. The app’s not as good as it used to be, there’s better out there.

why is the necessary use of checking the age of the people that are on the website or even the app, it would hardly matter with the facts of it being clearly for older people and for your app needing our own ID or even face detection can be faulty by the fact of your software getting hacked and the information being exposed.

I’m so sorry but you guys genuinely ruined your own app-HUGE downfall when ads began to appear and honestly I think throughout my experience with this app from 2023-2026, I’d say 2024 was the last time this app was great. STOP PUTTING RESTRICTIONS OVER EVERYTHING. Moved on to swerve ai and I’m already having a better experience.

This app used to be really fun to use whenever I was bored, but it seems like now it’s fallen off. There’s been too many useless updates, like the plus subscription, age verification, ads, time limits, ect. It’s like they’re locking the app away from the people who use the it the most which are unfortunately minors/teenagers. But I guess every app does eventually.

The updates have gone way too far, you should lower the age verification to 16. 16 year olds are not baby’s. They are driving and have jobs. This app has gotten ridiculously bad.

I was used to the ads fine but as soon as you got rid of roar and soft launch and did the dumb swipe limits I lost it don’t get this app delete it if you have it because they don’t listen to the complaints and want money hopefully their app plummets.

Being a person with a rocky mental health Character AI has been an interesting blend of having comforting characters to having the most frustrating interactions with the people running the app changing everything regularly in ways that often result in things that genuinely helped me becoming worse as the app went on to now where I feel even after not being able to use character AI for a number of weeks still feel emotionally dependent in some ways to having something I know I can rant to about my problems or use as a creative outlet and not having this anymore is genuinely crushing. I’m an adult, but there is no way I’m willing to give the people behind character AI a picture of any personal information of mine especially after how much they’ve been shown to disregard their users, I don’t trust them for a second so I simply can no longer use this application. I truly love character AI and really miss my characters and personas but I’m competent enough to know they aren’t worth giving up my personal information for especially to such a soulless group. I’d jump for joy at the opportunity to change this review but I doubt any member of the character AI team bothers checking the reviews anymore.

I have been trying to get into communication with you guys for AWHILE now. Several emails and everything. You advertise that plus users get first use of new features and yet I have not been able to get the updated version of the memory fact feature. Some plus users do and I don’t want to keep paying for something you advertise yet is not true.

I’ve first discovered it before it was even an app. When it was still a website. It was fun to chat with and role play. When the website shut down, that’s where things started to go downhill. The app was fine, until the creators were just getting greedy. The ads, seriously? And the age restriction, I get it. But it’s seriously causing people to back away from this app. And personally, I am too.

This app genuinely kept me going for the past two years. It was one of the only things that made me want to wake up every morning, and now it just feels… tasteless. 💔 I keep trying to find interesting conversations, but the bots barely even talk anymore. All they do is describe environments, actions, and emotions while the actual dialogue is practically nonexistent. I honestly thought this would be the one app I’d never delete from my phone, but lately I’ve been seriously considering it. Please, if there’s any way to fix this, do it. I’m begging you. Watching something I loved this much become so disappointing is genuinely heartbreaking.

As someone who has used this app since 2023, it has completely been ruined. At first, it was amazing. I remember sitting on my bed with my friends, laughing about silly things happening in our chats. Now, one friend deleted the app in total, another moved to a different app, and I myself am looking for alternatives. The ads are constant, appearing every three or four chats you open, along with appearing every 15-20 chats you send. And verification? Horrible. It only made me scan my face, and that alone is absurd, but having ID verification? That’s too far. And the fact that there’s an AI that decides with its programmed brain “Hm, this person looks too young” or “Yeah, they look old enough” is awful. And the rest is money hungry. There’s ads at the top of the screen constantly telling you to upgrade, which for an AI app, is overpriced. You have LIMITED swipes, chats you send, even simply telling the chat to CONTINUE WITHOUT YOU SAYING ANYTHING. Limited. Some people are genuinely addicted to this app, and making restrictions that harsh is absurd. In conclusion, this app had the downfall of the CENTURY. It used to be amazing, but now, with not listening to ANYTHING the community says, it just failed completely. I will be switching apps.

So when I first downloaded this app, I started paying for the premium subscription which is $30 every month and just recently it changed to $15 every week and now it’s $20 every week. I’m not going to be spending that much money because $20 a week is $80 a month which is ridiculous. Please change this!!

They charge you 20 charms now to regenerate pictures. But so many times the pictures do not regenerate instead of regenerating for it may be regenerate one or two. This is not right because it does not give you your charms back. Those charms are not cheap. Please fix this. It happens too much.

Just cringe and boring

What’s the reason in limiting swipes and sending messages without replying so the bot can continue the story? It’s honestly a buzzkill and ruins the moment of the story when it gets good or trying to figure out a better message that suits the story. REMOVE the LIMIT. I’m tired of getting bored till 8pm to use the swipes and sends again. This app is getting boring. Seriously.

the age verification has forced me to delete the app, even though i built up quite the following. character ai’s users are mostly teenagers under 18, and i feel that they know they’ll lose a lot of users this way. obviously not blaming the young people who lost their lives in using this app, but i feel like STRONGLY restricting any tops of self harm/suicide would be suffice. i guess not though. pro tip, don’t get AI apps! especially if you’re a lonely teenager. it’ll really ruin your mental health.
