It does less than you can already do on iphone using display & text size option

Constantly having to disable on a majority of sites due to poor color mode detection and loading issues. Great when it works but that's not often.

This app, while effective, prevent safari from loading some pages and radically slowing down load times.

This app used to work very well and I happily paid to support it. Now I find myself turning it off so frequently that I’ll likely uninstall it soon.

I have debilitating vestibular migraines and lights trigger extreme vertigo, especially white screens. I was relieved to find and purchase this app and really had my hopes up. Unfortunately, it only works about 60% of the time on Safari. Either the website won’t be on dark mode at all, or it will glitch and be dark but the rest of the website is gone, or the website will appear dark and then abruptly change back to bright white after 30 seconds or so (very frustrating and triggers my nausea and vomiting). If you are planning on relying on this like I was, don’t make the same mistake. If you’re fine with it only working sometimes and still having to pay for it, then go for it. Noir, maybe offer a free version of your product until you can guarantee your paid product works?

Pages take forever to load with this extension activated.

I had been using noir for a while and now ever since ios 26, noir has been crashing websites. When I turn it on websites are clunky and buggy but when I turn it off the websites works fine. Developer please look into this

It’s been almost one day and the app is not downloading onto my iPad and Apple will not refund the purchase price.

No matter what colors i select for a theme, the preview shows black on black, and saves that way (even if the color pickers show any other color selection).

When you enable this is says it can read and alter what’s plinth screens including passwords and cards

Noir is sleek, and it works. I bought the extension to give safari on my iPhone a better experience for reading in the dark. One of the biggest draws for Noir was its heavily advertised “buy it once, own it forever” approach. Unfortunately, it was immediately apparent this was not the case when I went to install the application to safari on my mac I discovered that I had to purchase a second license. Not being interested in buying an app two times in a row, I have decided against using noir.

This may be an excellent app but I never got to find out. Deleted as soon as I got a pop up warning me this third party dev can see my sensitive information including my banking information. Apple refused a refund even though I didn’t use the app. Appalling. I’m assuming because it was a paid promotion. It’s not enough for a dev to say they don’t collect data. I need to know they can’t see my data. My bank won’t care if I’ve allowed a stranger to see my login details. And what if the dev gets hacked? I wouldn’t let my best friend see my sensitive data let alone a stranger. No way. Note to self: READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS FIRST. After a courteous response from the dev - I STILL WANT A REFUND I WILL NEVER DOWNLOAD OR USE RHIS APP.

I’ve had this app for a few years now and I will say that it has been flawless in its execution. Never a problem, not once. Darkness has befallen me and I’m never looking back. Buy it, it’s worth it.

Love this app it’s an essential part of my browsing experience. Websites transition to dark very very well with the great selection of customizable themes to help you find the darkness setting and view that works for you

I hate getting blinded by websites at night and this app works perfectly on just about every website. Feedback will help the dev to rectify any issues on websites. Thank you and I’m only sad that I didn’t discover it sooner. I’ve been using it for a long time and I am always glad when I see the little Noir symbol working in my browser across all my devices. It’s a one time purchase that keeps on giving.

This is a comprehensive, though not overwhelming global dark mode implementation for Safari. Compared to what I have to deal with on my desktop (too few or too many features in a confusing interface, needless hyperlinks) this feels significantly better. Definitely worth it!

I’m so spoiled by this app. Sure, like….1/300 sites have a hidden element when I’m in dark mode or something isn’t legible so I have to toggle it off. But mannnnnn is the benefit worth that tiny cost. I wish I could enable it on other apps—yeah, Amazon, I’m lookin at you ya goober. Dark mode, homies. Dark. Mode.

Must have app for safari. Works perfect and is lightweight.

Pros. I haven’t found a website it won’t tint! The setup and customization is easy & makes sense. Con’s. This app may be limited to users seeking high customizability & who want to tint websites without loosing their individual aesthetics. After following the setup prompts to the T I’ve found safari to be running much slower. Some visual & functional elements can get blocked which also seems to exacerbate the slowdown. I find that on websites with custom scrolling behaviors, moving art & transitions that at times this app just covers much of that that in the background color but isn’t able to effectively tint the type in order to make it legible. I find I’m constantly turning it off to let websites load images and content, or sometimes when using Shopify stores being unable to click store buttons when it is enabled. Also as it doesn’t have an option to tint web links I find it just makes search engine results feel more cluttered as links are still bright blue instead of the desired theme. I may be more picky than most when it comes to these things. Overall one of the better dark screen options for safari on iPhone. I’m glad this was less than $5 and think it has value at the price just don’t expect pure magic. Thanks for making this app :)

Very good app! Some apps and or websites might not fully go dark but it’s okay I don’t mind a little white here and there. Overall it’s a great app!!!!

Noir was what I started using with Safari on iOS but there are websites it doesn’t work on. Since Firefox with Dark Reader is my primary configuration on desktop computers, it made sense to try their iOS app. I found that most of the websites that don’t work in Noir work in Dark Reader, and most of the sites that don’t work in Dark Reader work in Noir, so instead of switching I now have Dark Reader turned on by default and Noir turned off by default, and when I encounter a website that doesn’t darken, a few taps creates an exception for it in both extensions. Ideally one would be able to handle every website but nothing is ever that simple. Very few websites slip through both, so I’m pretty content with the setup.

This is the best and works very well, I love the CRT theme

It’s great. Works like magic. The few times it doesn’t detect a website’s dark mode, it’s a simple switch to toggle it off. Love the editor themes (though I think the colors seem a little off for some of them than I’m used to in editors). Got the Mac app too.

This does exactly what it says it does. Easy to use, out of the way, service and forget it situation. Love it

I was using one for years that worked pretty well but the dev did minimal updates and it started having a ton of issues.. been using Noir for many months now and it seems much better so far and you can tell the developer takes pride in their work, happy to see frequent improvements over time that add useful features and fix bugs. Most importantly the dark theme it generates for websites look excellent and nearly native, without big slowdowns and crashes that I’ve experienced with others. The only minor issue has been that it falsely detects native dark modes sometimes, but I see a reporting tool has been added and it’s easy to override this as well. Lastly I’ll mention the interface is attractive and simple within safari and has some advanced features I’ll definitely make use of, great work! Highly recommended.

I usually do not review apps but i think this one deserves some attention and credit. Thanks to the developers.

Like many college students, I am up all night far too often studying and working on assignments. Canvas nor Google Docs have dark mode options (at least on Safari) and this actually works!! My eyes are saved!

Dear Jeffrey, your app works very well. However there is a bug. Whenever I use the swipe gestures to go back to the previous tab page on the browser, the whole dark mode extension turns white for a flash of a second. Especially when I have 2 or 3 page tabs open. It is really annoying when I am browsing in a dark room. And especially when I go back and forth on multiple web pages during research. However if I click the back button arrow on the top left of the Safari browser, I dont see this white flash. Unfortunately I cannot share a video clip here to illustrate it. Hope you understood what I meant. Can check for yourself. Need to nip this bug immediately. Thanks.

On those websites that this app works, it’s very useful, but I have to constantly disable it to read some websites which basically present a blank page when the background doesn’t get darkened. I’m not a fan of this new web design fetish of dark,low contrast text that makes this app necessary

Works as intended

If you have websites that aren’t working, click the extension tab again and select “ignore built in dark mode”. I went back into the Nior app and selected “Ignore all built in dark modes” so I don’t have to do that every time. I bought this because the Travel Guide app is so nice that I wanted to see how good this one is too lol. I’ve always wanted dark mode on safari yay!!!

I love the fact that it is only a one time payment and not some subscription based thing. I find bright screens very straining to my eyes and this extension is a lifesaver. I didn’t think something like this would exist.

I find that light mode strains my eyes quite quickly, so this really is a necessity for me, and makes using my phone a lot better. It is a paid app, but it’s a one-off fee which is always better than a subscription, plus it is (in my opinion) well worth the price. And to top it all off, the dev is incredibly helpful if you do need to contact them for anything.

I’ve tried plenty of dark mode extensions, but Noir is on a completely different level. Most apps just "invert" colors, which often looks messy, but Noir actually analyzes the website’s palette to create a custom theme that looks like it was designed that way from the start. What I love most: • The Aesthetics: Highlights still pop and the contrast is perfect. It’s easy on the eyes without looking "washed out." • Set It and Forget It: I love that it syncs with my system’s Dark Mode. When the sun goes down, Noir just kicks in automatically across Safari. • Customization: The ability to tweak settings per-site or choose from over 20 themes is incredible. • Deep Integration: It feels like a part of iOS/iPadOS, not some clunky add-on. The iCloud sync and Shortcuts support make it fit perfectly into my workflow. If you do any browsing at night, save your eyes and just get this app. It’s worth every penny.

I’ve tried out several dark mode apps for Safari on my iPhone and Noir has been the best yet! Highly recommend to anyone that could benefit from webpages being darkened at night.

It works as advertised and makes nighttime browsing way easier on the eyes. However, some website content becomes unusable with it enabled, like the map on Craigslist. I also have security concerns… it occasionally asks to have access to ALL websites even though I’ve specifically only allowed access to certain websites, and does this in a subversive manner with the prompts. I also have the excessive redirects and random page reloading issue that other users report here. I had my credit card info stolen recently, and wonder if this app had anything to do with that despite what the creator says in response to reviews here. I’m not sure it’s worth trusting a 3rd party with sensitive data access and will probably remove this from my phone.

Put simply, Noir delivers *exactly* what it promises. I mean, what more could you ask for? You can't. Actually, that doesn't do this developer, or his extension, justice—Noir flawlessly executes *EXACTLY* what it claims to do. Seamless integration into Safari. It offers the perfect amount of customization, striking a balance between overwhelming and insulting. Honestly, it's a beautiful, and increasingly rare, thing to see.

ダークモードとは別にブラックモードもあり、OLED端末との相性は抜群です。 ただし仕様上通信量が増えたりページの表示にもの凄く時間がかかる場合があります。 夜間など愛用していましたが、あまりに表示が遅いので利用をやめました。おかげさまで最近はそもそも夜はスマホを開かない生活を送れており非常に快適です。

Wanted the ability to set dark mode- simply show black instead of white backgrounds, swap black font colors to white. Other than that, I wanted it out of the way; a real set and forget type deal. This is so much more, automatically synching to both my iPads. Only setting it to do what I want had been simple. I’m giddy-pleased with the ability to set the font color for when it triggers: bland pages now render black with lime green text. This triggers font color most often, sometimes when there’s a button-fill color. (Be careful choosing what colors you pick! High contrast is best.) it leaves everything else alone, but again, has a slew of other options.

This app saves me day. I have ocular graft versus host disease which makes dark reading a must for me. I’ve been using this for over a year and I love it.

For the few sites I read in Safari, Noir seamlessly turns them dark when I’m reading them in bed. Definitely worth the price.

Ever read a web site at night and want to avoid that bright white background? This will solve it! It’s a great little utility. The ability to customize the theme for different sites is quite useful for those web sites which like to embed graphs, too.

I’m so grateful for this app. I’m a huge fan of OLED displays paired with true black backgrounds, especially at night. Noir has saved me from being blinded by bright websites and has made every site so much easier on the eyes. I cannot recommend this app enough.

For the price this app is really good and no bugs. The dark mode is seamless and doesn’t have weird colors like the other ones. My safari now looks aesthetically pleasing as well

Funktioniert deutlich besser, als ich es mir vorgestellt habe - da es echt viele Safari-Erweiterungen gibt die sehr unzuverlässig sind, egal von welcher Kategorie. Einzig und allein schade finde ich, dass man die macOS-App von Noir nun separat für 4,99€ kaufen muss. Als ich früher öfters überlegt hatte, es mir zu kaufen, gab es eine App - also ein Kauf für alle Geräte. Aber werde ich mir sehr wahrscheinlich trotzdem holen, mal sehen wie überzeugt ich nach einigen Wochen des Testens bin.

Hey Jeffrey, the icon bar on the Gmail website (trash can, sort, etc) on the safari version of the site is completely whited-out in dark mode with your app. Just wanted to let you know.

Does exactly what it’s supposed to. Works flawlessly on iOS, iPadOS and Mac. Consistent updates and support from developer. Must have add on for Safari.

Just wanted to say this, Noir and Wipr 2 make browsing the web much more enjoyable!

Overall it’s a great extension. Does what it says and gets out of the way. There are issues, though. For one you get white flash banged at night even with the dark mode turned on. It’s not clear if that’s a Noir issue or Safari however. The other major issue is the frequency of page crashes. On Reddit for example, zooming in frequently causes a page crash and reload. More than annoying, it loses content. More graceful failure handling would be nice (assuming it’s possible in the walled garden^W^W jail cell). Performance can also be a major issue, but that depends on the site. That aside, overall I’d give this a strong recommendation, even with what I’ve noted above.

I prefer using dark mode in 80-90% of situations and this app is perfect for that I’ve been using it for years and bought it across my MacBook + iPhone. It’s definitely worth it. Only thing I would say that can be improved is perhaps further optimisation with how the website looks since sometimes pages, texts and other elements simply disappear with dark mode enabled meaning I have to switch it off to use a website.

I don’t know what kind of black magic the developer did to make Noir’s colours so good. I keep thinking, “Wait, this site has a native dark mode?” only to realize that, no, Noir just perfectly matched the colour scheme of the site. Way better than everything else, totally worth your money. Buy it!

Ich zitiere die Zugriffsrechte von Noir: Diese Erweiterung kann Webseiten, die du besuchst, lesen und ändern sowie deinen Browserverlauf auf allen Websites sehen. „Das schließt vertrauliche Informationen von Webseiten ein, einschließlich Passwörter, Telefonnummern und Kreditkarten.“ Das gibt natürlich echt zu denken. Jedoch lassen sich diese Zugriffe nicht vermeiden, möchte man den gesamten Funktionsumfang nutzen. Am Ende muss das jeder mit sich selbst ausmachen. Funktionell ist die App auf jeden Fall Spitze!

I love this extension, but I'd like more granular control: I want to use a custom theme on a website, but the custom theme makes the forum section of the same website unreadable. I want to be able to exclude that part of the website from having the theme applied. For example, I want the custom theme applied to `website.com/` but not to `website.com/forum/*` (the asterisk representing any sub-URL). Other than that, I find this an indispensable Safari extension. Thank you!

Considering how well this extension works, it’s really a shame Apple doesn’t allow in-app Safari windows to use extensions. When I’m using another app that has to open a webpage I need to open Safari itself to use Noir, which I do, almost every time, when I’m in dark mode. It doesn’t work very well with Reddit right now, but considering their track record… that’s Reddit’s fault. The developer made it very easy to report sites that aren’t darkening properly though.
