MacOS, Maptrails Pro: Homepage with no contact option, no documentation, Help menu but no help, no way to switch to OSM (though mentioned in the description), no operations at all possible with tracks, no highlighting of individual tracks in container gpx, … sorry, but this list is too long for comfort already. EDIT: I am told that there is a mail address in the Settings menu.

I love the concept behind Kartasto, and on iOS it's pretty good. Unfortunately the macOS app performs so poorly as to be unusable on my 2020 Intel MacBook Pro. Just sitting idle it's taking > 50% of my CPU, and it's impossibly sluggish when trying to interact with it.

Für mich und meinen Zweck die perfekte App. Genau nach einer solchen Anwendung habe ich schon lange gesucht. Herr Salenius hat auch auf meine E-Mail schnell geantwortet und zu meinem Problem prompt eine Lösung geliefert.

This seems really good, but it would be nice if the GPX track display could be made larger in separate window with more detail. Otherwise really good especially for the low price.

I use Maptrails to record daily hikes in the forest with my dog. The Pro version is a great value. Features I like: choice of offline maps with multiple saved areas, smooth map rotation, statistics with speed and elevation graphs, map marker photos, Apple Health integration, Mac app.

It combines the official topographic maps of numerous countries with OSM-Layers with useful features like map downloading, great work! Even better than my favourite outdoor-active! But I got several questions: this far there is no italian or slovenian map and the french and german maps do not show. Why is that? And apart of that, is it possible to synchronize the downloaded map tiles over several devices? Thanks for your efforts!

I normally use this on hikes, enduro and on boat trips, but found it also useful when designing new building layouts at our property. Really easy to use and add new maps that fit the purpose.

I use Kartasto to visualize trips I have undertaken over the years. I put markers in places that I have listed in my travel diaries, provide them with icons (e.g. for overnight stays) and copy sentences from my diaries into the notes that can be added to each marker. You can also add photos to the markers - another great feature. In the app you can also visualize routes that automatically follow the roads on the map. The markers can be summarized conveniently in folders - i use one for each trip - so even if you manage the trips of several decades your map will never become cluttered. Since the last update, the developer implemented folders also for tracks. Although Kartasto is actually an ios app, it runs robustly and reliable on the Mac, and everything synchronizes within seconds seamlessly via the icloud. For example, you can record a track live on the ipad and work with it at home on the big screen of the imac. The developer is very attentive and open for feature requests. Since i first wrote this review, he has implemented two suggestions of mine - the ability to move markers without having to delete them and an indication whether a marker has nots attached to it. Kudos!

Ich verwende Kartasto, um Reisen zu visualisieren, die ich im Lauf der Jahre unternommen habe. Ich setze Marker an Orten, die ich in meinen Reisetagebüchern verzeichnet habe, versehe sie mit Icons (z.B. für Übernachtungen) und kopiere mir Sätze aus meinen Tagebüchern in die Notizen, die man jedem Marker hinzufügen kann. Auch Fotos kann man hinzufügen, was ebenfalls ein tolles Feature ist. Außerdem lassen sich mit dem Track-Zeichen-Tool sehr einfach und intuitiv zurückgelegte Wegstrecken visualisieren, die automatisch den Straßen folgen. Die Marker lassen sich sehr übersichtlich in Ordnern zusammenfassen - für jede Reise einer -, wodurch man auch bei vielen Reisen die Übersicht behält. Seit dem letzten Update gibt es diese Ordner auch bei den Tracks - genial! Obwohl Kartasto eigentlich eine ios-App ist, läuft es sehr robust und zuverlassig auch auf dem Mac, und alles sychronisiert völlig problemlos über die icloud. So kann man z.B. auf dem ipad live einen Track aufzeichnen lassen, den man später auf dem großen Bildschirm des Mac verfeinert und ergänzt. Tolle Sache! Und dazu die Vielfalt an unterschiedlichen Kartenbildern, die Möglichkeit, eigene Layer zu erstellen, und ein Entwickler, der auf Anregungen rasch reagiert ... was will man mehr?

There are lots of detailed, open data, mapping apps but most have terrible UI and this one is really slick. One minor point: Could benefit from a little more documentation around customer layers: some UK Ordnance Survey WMTS and WFS sources I use fine with QGIS didn't work but it wasn't clear exactly which URL endpoint was expected and no examples are provided.

I was looking for an app to replace Gaia GPS, due to concerns about their privacy practices after they joined Outside… and was really pleased to find this nice suite of apps by an indie developer who really gets the privacy issue! It has a nice, consistent interface across iPhone, iPad and Mac and I can drop GPX files into the Kartasto folder in iCloud and my data become instantly available on all my devices. But be warned, it’s primarily an app for viewing your waypoints and tracks on a map and has only limited navigation features.

It’s a great app! I use it for my trekking and it’s very complete. The only feature that is is missing is the quote on target (the x cross) when you explore the map, like the coords. Just the current quote visible.

Awesome app. Really like it. Feels like a modern map tool.
