BUYERS BEWARE: absolue scam. Extremely poor functionality

The app will not permit me to change workout plans, which is a core feature I expected to work seamlessly. In addition, I have repeatedly asked “Coach Shannon” to modify or change my program, and despite multiple attempts, it has been unable to do so. I have tried closing and reopening the app several times, but the issue persists. At this point, I am incredibly frustrated. The app has not provided a user-friendly experience, and the ongoing technical limitations have made it effectively unusable for me. Given the amount of money I have paid, I expected a significantly higher level of functionality, responsiveness, and overall reliability. UPDATE: your response to my concerns is laughable. I contacted your “customer support team” several times and they offered no solutions. When I requested a refund they told me I had to do so through Apple via the App Store. But there is no option to request a refund for a subscription paid in full. !

I want to like it

I really want to like this app. The UI is great to navigate and looks nice. BUT and this is a big BUT…. I’m working out from home and not a gym. I’ve put in the equipment I have which is very limited but it’s still trying to give me workouts which require proper machines at the gym. You’re telling me there isn’t exercises that can work backs and biceps using dumbbell’s???!! It’s absolutely ridiculous. What is the point of putting in the equipment you have if it doesn’t even give you those workouts?? You think I have a smith machine at home? Well if I did then I would have put it into my available equipment. I’m on the 7 day trial before I have to pay for the year. If it does that again in the next workout I will cancel the trial and look for another app!

Apple Watch integration very buggy and doesn’t work

Unknown · 2024/03/16 00:33 · BPS2020

2

I like the workout element, but the Apple Watch Ultra integration just doesn’t work. The watch app crashes/closes every 10 second during a workout. Half the time I don’t use it but then when you reopen it to try again it after a few sessions its runs through every set you’ve done since across all workouts. It’s also not clear if you’re meant to open an Apple fitness workout at the same time, either way the watch integration needs sorting out. I find I have to still use Apple fitness workout as otherwise my workouts are not recorded into the health app.

WatchOS app is useless

The app for Apple Watch is non functional. Stays on one screen, completely useless. I am not sure if it’s designed as such or whether it doesn’t work for me at all, but a disappointing experience for an other issue great iPhone app.

Torn everything in my legs doing a home work out! Jumped right into the exercises without an option or even a suggestion of warming up, and finished halfway through knowing something really bad has happened. I haven’t been able to get up or down the stairs and have virtually pulled the bathroom sink off the wall trying to ease myself down with as less pain as possible! Perhaps this has opened my eyes to an opportunity of creating an app more suitable for someone such as myself! (Someone who thinks they can do it, because they used to be able to) before more people like me are injured and put off exercising. It’s over priced in my opinion too! And I find the app clunky and difficult to follow

3

"The overall exercise routines are very good. However, the app doesn’t allow you to edit data. If you accidentally input the wrong weight or reps, you have to delete everything you've already done and re type it all again. The spellcheck feature in the notes works, but the cursor jumps in the middle of words, causing frustration. As a result, users end up spending more time dealing with these issues. Both problems were raised months ago with no resolution."

Good app, but needs urgent improvements.

Unknown · 2026/04/17 01:08 · iannnnu

3

It’s working well, but still needs a lot of improvement. There’s quite a lot of bugs and issues that are really frustrating. This app could be so much more. It’s still the best workouts app I’ve tried, but again, it needs a lot of more work.

Good app with some bugs

Unknown · 2025/06/12 13:19 · Alshakno

4

The workout plans are nice. There is a bug that keeps switching to lbs from kg which is annoying. The rest are not bugs but need polishing for sure. Need to be able to log the weights during the resting. Accessing to the main menu without needing to quit the workout.

Indispensable for my workout

Unknown · 2024/11/10 07:52 · tinmen81

5

I have loved using this app over the past year and it’s been helpful for getting results. I guess the one thing I truly miss is that the exercises don’t tell what muscles are being targeted. I would love to understand in a little more detail since that would really help in correcting my form if I know what exactly I should be hitting with an exercise.

The workout duration does not work!

Unknown · 2024/06/18 09:20 · RipperAU47

5

This app claims to let you nominate the duration of the workout, presumably to give it an edge over it’s competitors. Well, it is a con! I have been using this app for years and find that the duration setting DOES NOT WORK! When I called this out, I didn’t complain. I offered to time their so called trainers who presumably designed their workouts to show us exactly how the workouts could be fit into the nominated durations. That offer was ignored. Instead, they sneakily reduced the rest intervals between sets which can cause muscle fatigue. When I called out this behaviour, they changed the app to provide the time it took me to do the sets, rather than the average of users which was a more representative sample. The app actually provides duplicates of exercises (who does barbell bench presses followed by dumbbell presses?!?), which can result in severe muscle overexertion and injury. Take your money elsewhere. I left it too late. Changing now. This app is a con.

Finally...an app that just works!

I've worked out my whole life. And it's always been a pain to have to think about and plan out my workout every day. Not just WHAT to do, but remembering what I did last time and trying to track gains. It was also always a challenge to get in and out of the gym efficiently. SHRED changed all that. Now I literally show up to the gym, open the app, and do what it says. It keeps track of my progress, keeps me moving through my workouts with a timer, and encourages me to push myself the whole way through. I've tried just about every app out there, and this app is by far the best one. And it's a lot cheaper than a personal trainer. They also are investing in their app, making new updates often. I always look forward to the next update...because they seem to be listening to their members and making the app ever better than it already is. Not only is the app an awesome workout app, but the company is amazing as well. It's easy to ask a question or report a bug. And they answer quickly and make you feel like a person, not just a "trouble ticket". Shred team...keep up the great work. I'm a disciple for life!

Shred is the best workout app I’ve used by far, and I’ve tried a few. The layout, the content and the features all make it easy to use and give you real guidance for your workouts. The custom workouts feature is great and accommodates for when you need toe squeeze in a quick session or for when you have time to settle in and pace it out. The social features also make you feel connected to a community with the same goals and mentality. Get this app

I’m not a gym rat and I find this app very useful, with some powerful trainings and combos with cardio, stretch and an inside community. I love the option to choose the “mood” for bulking, lean… 👍🏻 But I would improve some points: - more detailed orientation on the exercises, how to proper set the posture, movement and so on - add more education or which muscle we are targeting, like an X-Ray or something - when you choose an alternative exercise sometimes it doubles the exercise with same type - add an profile category for people with injures like lower back or knee pain (so some exercises would be skipped or proposed 😃) - would be nice if we could choose some parts we want to prioritize (ie: calves, upper chest…) - fix UX stuff like (you can’t see your last weight lifted in all exercises, a place to change or reset your alternatives, let us view the alternative video to see if it’s viable (the thumbnail is not practical), add reference metric “number” for repetition within the range of very easy to very hard)

Great PT substitute in your pocket and light on it!

Really Like and Want to Love

It’s a really sweet app for working out and has the perfect set up, just need some tweaking. For example it asks in setting what equipment you have available to use and it saves your selections, but then when you use the guided workouts the workout isn’t tailored based on the equipment you select. So you end up using the alternatives which they nicely have as an option for every workout, but it would be super convenient if the workout program already was tailored to the settings. Also I wish there was a way to be able to use the app with no internet. At my gym it’s super crappy cell service and no Wi-Fi and so sometimes I can’t view the video instructions. Which leads to my other complaint- I wish they would have a stretching routine that wasn’t a class or video based program. I can’t use the videos at my gym and so if I want to do a suggested stretch I can’t since it’s only in video follow along format. If they had it set up to where it was like the workouts and it gave you video instructions on how to do the stretch and a timer for each one so I could use the feature without internet that’d be perfect. Another thing that would be awesome was that after a workout when it suggests a short 5 minute cardio or HIIT that it'd instead ask you how much time you wanted to spend on those extras. I love the option after a workout to do my cardio or HIIT but sometimes I have more time so if it’d let you select an amount vs the preset 5 min that’d be sweet.

Best app ever to train at home

I have used this app consistently for the past 15 months - shortly after COVID lockdowns began. I’ve noticed positive gains in muscle strength and faster times in my 5k runs. Even without doing any running, my occasional runs have been quicker from losing weight and gaining muscle. Having the option to choose from home or gym workouts is awesome too since a lot of gyms are open now. Now I definitely don’t have any excuses to miss a workout. I also like the variability in the workouts. I haven’t done the same workout back to back or one after the other. They are slightly different each time which is exactly what I was looking for in a workout app. I just start my workout on Shred and follow the workout plan for that day. I’ve always done just basic workouts that I would guess on. I would see some gains and weight loss, but I see results much quicker with the Shred app and it takes the guess-work out of a great workout. I had to take some time off from working out due to moving to a new city and a lower back injury. Im starting back up after taking about two months off and I’m really just sore from starting at a new gym. Time to get Shred! One thing I do request is if it were possible to choose or change your next exercise while the countdown for the rest period has begun. Currently, you have to wait until the countdown is over before you can see alternate exercises for the next exercise. It would be nice to already see what your options are and choose one before the timer ends so that you can jump right into the next exercise without wasting any time.

Best Fitness App I’ve ever used!

Unknown · 2021/07/13 00:57 · oli_A187

5

Everything is really laid out and organised, the app is easy to navigate and gives you alternate exercises if equipment is being used (very valuable in a small gym). I’d also like to mention that it integrates well with your music players and offers you motivational tracks and podcasts. Unlike from the negative reviews I’ve seen, you are definitely not conned into purchasing the subscription service for the app which gives you access to more tailored exercise options and added features but the free version more than has enough features to be worthwhile. Regardless, even if you don’t have enough money to buy the subscribed version for the entire year, I would recommend purchasing the subscription variably - just to show support for the company and its brilliant app.

200 workouts complete

Unknown · 2021/01/02 00:10 · JaimeAllNight

5

Figure it’s time I left a review since I have now done 200 workouts without a paid subscription. SHRED has taken all the programming and guesswork out of going to the gym and working out at home. I just show up and do the work daily and am very happy with the progress made in strength and physique. The standard workouts push me further than I would push myself, and keep it interesting with a mix of big compound lifts and dynamic supersets for strength and functional movement. The HIIT finishers are also good when you have some left in the tank. I’ve been waiting to get bored with the standard and classic workouts, worried that I’ll eventually have to program for myself but it hasn’t happened yet. This app has taken me from complete beginner to confidently doing all the exercises in 6 months, the tips and videos are just enough to learn the movements. I think this app has the most value for someone with a gym membership, a keen mindset and a tolerance for suffering. Would be good to adjust workouts for a home gym, eg those who don’t have a full rack of dumbbells but do have a rack and barbell etc. Keep up the good work 💪🏼

Pretty good, needs adjustments.

There’s some really good workouts and exercises in here with loads of positive aspects like positive messaging, uplifting quotes, and great tips with videos of the exercises. The improvements needed are to the flexibility of routines and ability to change based on previous workout. If you can’t do an exercise for some reason you can’t “skip”, it requires an entry of reps. Notes you enter are recorded but there’s no display of the notes next time you do that exercise or an icon to alert you there’s a note to review. There’s a slide button to record each exercise’s difficulty but that previous recording is not displayed next time you do that exercise. So if it asks for 20 reps and you do it with 25 lbs but only got 16 reps, you can move slide button to record it was difficult but can’t record both weight and reps. So next time it still asks for 20 reps and tells you your previous weight if entered but nothing about difficulty level or notes you entered. “Custom” workout selection is not really custom, it allows only upper body, lower body, or abs. I just did a 20 min upper body workout with dumbbells and it was good but there were 10 exercises that worked chest/tris but only one exercise for both back and bis. I tried to skip the two LEG workouts (hot toes, etc) in the custom upper body routine but couldn’t so I substituted with two for back/bi but had to make notes on my notepad because app doesn’t accommodate skipping or custom substitutions. There’s more...

I rarely make reviews but this app is fantastic. It’s perfectly organised so you are placed on a path(you can change paths) and it’s so customisable based on your situation. I was using it in the gym before we all were forced into self-isolation due to Covid-19 and I’ve never seen a workout app make it so easy to transition between gym regularly to bodyweight fitness. My favourite part though is the way you can choose between 3 different levels before your workout based on how much time you have and another group of options for how hard you want to go. Trying to get my wife involved with it so we can do the partner workouts but she’s hesitant about whether it’ll be a bit gendered towards male-dominant workouts. I can’t vouch for that one as I haven’t tried it. Regardless, don’t listen to the whiners about paying. You get plenty of trial before being asked to pay and come on, it’s worth it. The videos during your workouts that are basically little 10 second guides on how to do the workout is extremely clutch for someone who didn’t pay attention during preseason sports in HS. You get the picture folks, five stars for sure.

I am loving this app so far. I don’t mind paying for something that has all these features! One thing I recommend for a future update is to incorporate a Landscape mode for iPad users. I have a stand for my iPad that keeps it in landscape, so it sucks to take out every time. With landscape mode you could show what you have to work out next, a timer, a way to add water etc. Lots of options to utilize the space.

What I like about the app is that you can customize the settings to where it can fit your preferences for your workouts. You can also tell it to skip a workout if your home/gym doesn’t have the proper equipment for that workout. Well.. for the most part. My first workout was for chest and triceps and every time it would go to a new section of the workout, it would give me the option to skip that section if you didn’t have the equipment or if someone was using it (you would just go back to that section later). But when it came to a section using a bar (for bench presses, squats, etc.) it didn’t give me the option. I guess it assumes that every gym has a bar, but I was working out at my neighborhood’s fitness center and it did NOT have a bar. Because it didn’t give me the option to skip, I had to just spam “complete, complete, complete,” essentially lying and saying I did the bar workout when I actually didn’t. Sure, I could use dumbbells instead, but I had JUST finished an entire dumbbell section of the workout prior to this problem. In the end, this isn’t a huge deal, except it can give inaccurate workout information to the one that logs that info for personal use. Overall, it’s a great app, and it helped me get an awesome workout, it’s just this one detail that made me give four stars.

Enjoying but....

Fitness apps, we all hear about them and we all see them, but what works? I think I’ve tried about 22 different apps and after about 2 months I get bored and move on. I downloaded this app in Feb 2019 and I’m still with it. My body has changed so much, using it 5x a week. Wanna bulk up, the program is there. Tome that body, see the exercises More high intensity, it’s all there. There is such a variety of workouts, intensity, sets, reps etc to change the parts of your body you want to, I’m a person who doesn’t really want to think, just show me what I’m doing and just do it. Don’t pay $90 a session with PT, pay $20 a month, stay motivated and active. You can even add in extra activities that you’ve done, CrossFit, Zumba, etc. The only thing this app needs to do is add 10 minute session to the cardio for a warm up.

Great application , I’m already loving it !

I’ve never really been to the gym, aside from the two times my brother got me to go (he’s a personal trainer. I can’t go to him every week though because I live an hour away). The main reason is because I was honestly scared. Scared of what people would think of me, scared of not making enough improvement, and mostly scared of making a fool of myself because I simply don’t know how to use the equipment. This app is great because you can choose your workout style and how long you want to work out and the coaching style. It explains how to use the equipment so I at least LOOK like I know what I’m doing. I don’t go to the gym everyday but I’ve gone more times in the past couple of weeks than I have in my whole life and I love how alert I feel after a morning workout. The only critique I have is I wish the app would let you select your gender. I’m a female with a fairly large chest and some of the things that have you on your stomach is pretty much impossible for me to do without pain and I usually end up skipping those, meaning I’m not getting my full workout sometimes. But that’s really the only issue I’ve come across.

Best

This app is from far the best fitness app I have used until now! The app is very user-friendly with great workouts. It is even possible to switch between multiple training styles to work the muscles differently. Also you can adapt each sessions’ duration with 3 options (either shorter, regular or longer) and you can choose how many time you want to train per week! I highly recommend this app. The only downside is that the app does not have a warm-up option and a stretching option to cool down after a great workout! Still stays the best fitness app I have tried.

Love it!!!

I’ve been telling myself for 10 years post college that I would finally commit to getting the body an athlete in the prime of his primordial existence should have. I wanted to be a warrior at the gym , I wanted to be a beast and do it alone. I never wanted a trainer, I never wanted the small talk, the feeling of being somebody’s pay check. Shred gave me the keys to the castle. I have workouts that not only are the best in the gym BUT workouts where at least a few people ask me where I got my workout every single time, including trainers. The workouts are dynamic, athletic and efficient no matter what style you use. I try to alternate between four different syles over the course of the year, LeanX and Crossshred when I’m in absolute beast mode and want to up my anaerobic and muscular conditioning . These styles have athletic work, and isolation work. I also do Bulk and Classic to focus more on iso and hypertrophy training for really working on muscle density. I also do my Shreds at the end of the workout to stay as chiseled as possible. Shred has allowed me to kill it with the ladies, finally! Like a serious change that I’ve never had. I’ve never been the guy with the abs, but I really am now. I’m not cocky now I’m just confident and I guess happy. My job is not that amazing in a lot of ways and so Shred is finally something to look forward to at the end of the day .

Much better than an actual PT

I have tried a number of fitness apps but this is the one app that truly stuck with me because it is much more effective than other apps and I started seeing results within a month of following the regime prescribed by the adaptive trainer mode in the app. It is very intuitive to use and fully customisable to suit your workout style/habits and fitness goals. Each workout is accompanied by a video demonstration as well as recommended tips on how to execute the exercise properly without injuring yourself. The app also track stats like time spent workout and muscles utilized so you can recalibrate your workouts accordingly. If you are into weightlifting, the app also helps you to track the weights you previously used for each exercise. No need to depend on memory or bring around a notebook anymore! I’ve recommended this app to friends who are into fitness too and they found it really helpful to elevate their workout regime.

Game changer

I’ve known Adam Summer since we were in university, and he has always had a special understanding of fitness. When I found out he wanted me on the beta test a year ago I was excited to try it out. I was blown away. I’m honestly addicted to the app to the point that it frustrates me obsessively if I missed a workout or don’t have time to do my shreds, I need my stats! I need my color blocks and my rising orange diagonal line on my stat sheet. The workouts are second to none, and I’ve used trainers and in retrospect our workouts seemed so weak in comparison. More so my trainers gave me two workouts a week but now I have a PATH and a PLAN. The workouts have an unbelievable flow , moving seamlessly from exercise to exercise , from circuit to circuit, the rest is timed out and the videos and tips are pertinent and clear. Ohhhh and the quotes inspire me and keep from texting during the rest BUT also if I do get off the app for a quick bit in between exercises I get a pop up reminder to get back on the app when the rest is over. I’m just so into this app man, I can’t explain all of what is in one review. But thanks Adam and the team at Shred
