Perfect for lore building. Like im making ocs and i suck at keeping track of my lore and keeping it concise and so i just talk about my lore and tell it to organize it and tell it when to add something or not and it summarizes it in an easily digestible way its so good for lore and world building

The app itself is great but it doesn’t have any safeguards in case you don’t log out after a meeting. Otter over charged me about 2 hours worth of minutes because the program did not log out. Despite there being a 90 minute limit on minutes used at a time they refused to credit me my time. Even if you can prove there was no activity and the transcript is empty they don’t care. There is no sense of customer loyalty with them. When my year is up I will most likely find a different app and move on.

I needed this app to transcribe a meeting for me. It really did a half way ok job. It doesn’t differentiate voice well. It would be easier to just take shorthand notes instead. Accidentally forgot to delete it so unfortunately I paid for a subscription and didn’t get a usable product.

I signed up for the 7-day trial of the $16.99 Pro plan specifically because it advertised 90 minutes of recording time per meeting. I needed it to keep track of a critical school district meeting for my daughter. Instead, the app cut me off at exactly 30 minutes right in the middle of the meeting. I didn't even get the extra time promised for the premium trial. This feels like incredibly sneaky, dishonest advertising. How can anyone trust these tools to manage important parts of their life or business if the company can't be 100% honest about what they deliver in their advertisements? Don't ask people to try a product to earn their money, and then hold the actual features hostage until the card clears. It's frustrating and completely unreliable when you're counting on it. Absolute trash user experience.

Signed up for the “Free” 7 day trial and was immediately charged $16.99. I want my money back. Do not download this app.

Logged me out and won't let me login saying needs email. I use my Apple ID to login and never had a problem before. Won't even let me set an email.

Be sure to read their terms of service very carefully. Do not try it out. Would not refund a canceled annual subscription that was not used

I discovered Otter in 2022, and it basically helped me write half of my book. The speech to text was clean and quick, and it would break up the transcription into actual sentences. Today, I returned to it as I’m writing another book. I did two 20 min recordings. It lost the last 5 minutes of one of these recordings. Back in 2022, I paid for premium and used it hundreds of hours, and not once did it lose any of my recordings. 4 minutes isn’t a lot of material by any means, but I no longer trust it and will be switching to another company. I can’t believe how much this app has declined in quality. It’s disgraceful.

Beyond recording, limited functionality. Meeting notes and action items need are in beta. Cannot train it to recognize terms or voices

every app just HAS to include some sort of money grab/subscription. what lecture is only 30 minutes? just taking advantage of students/people with disabilities who would really benefit from this. $16.99 a month is also insane!! so greedy, you can make money from advertising or make it more affordable. i’ll be looking for an alternative.

Everything about this app doesn’t work like you’d think. Try to edit a transcript (totally buggy), try to add a photo (lowest quality photo possible), etc. You need to fix your product.

Great concept. Absolute trash execution. The idea of a recorder that instantly uploads audio, transcribes it, and lets you access it from anywhere on the web is amazing . Too bad this app can barely record audio reliably. Processing audio takes several minutes or worse, the AI transcription is laughably bad, especially for anything technical in nature. And now this dumb app lost an entire meeting I recorded to help write notes. Customer support? Good luck! Apparently there support strategy is to provide an email to nowhere that I guess I might get a response to. The point is this type of product is designed to be used and retrieved quickly and routinely and this app simply can’t do that accurately or , for me right now, not at all. This thing is less reliable or useful that the voice memo app on iPhone and given I have to use ChatGPT on the audio anyway to get accurate transcript, that’s one my headache that really makes me question if it is a huge livability to get it

Hello Otter Support, I’m very disappointed with the app’s recent performance. It started out strong, but lately it has become unreliable. When I press “record,” it sometimes does not start recording, or it becomes unresponsive. As a result, I have missed important meeting notes and manual recordings. I also noticed that since the pause/stop button began appearing on the screen, the recording issues have become much worse. Please resolve this issue immediately or provide a refund. Thank you.

I have been using this app for many years but their customer service is very bad takes forever to get response.

The app makes it extremely difficult to cancel the free trial. I missed the cancel trial deadline by a few minutes and was charged a $89.99 fee. The company is not allowing any refunds and now I am stuck with a subscription I do not need for a whole year. BEWARE! They offer zero flexibility.

I have a testé on Monday. Yesterday did not record my class!!!! They said , no worries is recording and transcripts appear later!! False!!!!

I have had Otter since February 2025, but the big problem it is so terrible. I had to get rid of it. I tried to solve it multiple times and I still got the exact same issues. So for example It takes so long to make a one minute video and when it does it my video crashes mid upload. Why does it take so long to upload a one minute video? I don’t know. I also struggle to login. When I tried to login otter I was freaking rejected. You’re absolutely messed up. Please update the app. I tried to buy a plan multiple times and failed. This app is the worst.

I have had issues since at least November maybe longer with the ability to edit my conversations on my iPhone and iPad. I have submitted several requests and only told they are working on it. I’ve been paying for another year and have had nothing but issues. It’s frustrating when I pay for the pro version. When will there be sustaining solution?!?

I’ve been using otter for 2 years now 2026.serious decline in transcription quality with my subscription. When I first began using the service, it accurately captured nearly all spoken content, including very subtle speech, and reliably identified speakers. I relied on it heavily for SPECIAL EDUCATION ARD IEP SCHOOL MEETINGS. Recently, however, I’ve noticed a significant drop in performance. Entire sentences and even full paragraphs are being skipped or omitted from transcripts. Speaker identification is also no longer functioning consistently.i have resumed using the service this year for ADVOCACY meetings, and unfortunately, the current output does not reflect the level of accuracy expected from a $100 annual paid subscription. At this point, the performance is comparable to what I would expect from a free-tier service.I have tried canceling and WEB/app tells me “OTTER REFUSED TO CONNECT“ I have also tried using their IA chat to communicate my whats going on and it just keeps going into loops and does not resolve my issue! I have already documented multiple recent meetings where key content was missing from the transcript. This impacts usability and reliability for recordkeeping purposes. I need a HUMAN to contact ME TO HELP RESOLVE MY ISSUE, TO CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION and FOR A REFUND OF MY UNUSED SUBSCRIPTION.

This app doesn’t even let you login. I chose Google. I chose Microsoft. It makes it way too difficult to access your account to login. It would be much better suited if it just simply worked.

Paid for the pro version so I could use it only to have them tell me there is a 90 min limit that is not clearly communicated in the upgrade screen on the app.

Takes so long to load a 1 minute video this app is a joke

I just wrote a highly negative review of this program. The program is so horrible I wanted to leave another an emphatic negative rating about it for emphasis.

It was nice to be able to get my thoughts out quickly and have the brainstorming session summarized. However this seems to be a tool designed for desktop users. The real deal breaker for me is the lack of practical usability for my needs. 1)The inability to simply move a recording/session into a folder for categorization. I clocked the ••• and selected move to folder. Nothing happens. Am i supposed to hold it? Or is there a drag and drop. 2)the getting started instructions are for a desktop user layout. I feebly tried to use the self help and would have continued to try and work it out but when troubleshooting with the AI chat, if i went back into the app to attempt the suggestion, there was no way to get back to that chatbot again. I had initially clicked on the popup “chat now/or whatever the chatbot link was” but i couldn’t get back to it. As a truck driver i cant be looking at screens and trying to troubleshoot things to learn how to use an expensive app. Need to be click and go. I will circle back around to this program again someday but im not interested in spending money to help a designer troubleshoot their own app. Thank you for your hard work and im sure this helps many many many people. Its a very cool tool. It’s simply not practical for my needs.

I am a longtime user and I feel the service is getting worse. It takes a year and a day to get transcripts. Very disappointed.

Guys has hidden the unsubscribe button very far and even made an effort so my phone won’t scroll to the button… this must be illegal.

Most greedy, misleading app I’ve ever used! Act all great to get you in the door then every 30 minutes says you need to upgrade to this plan then the next plan to do another 30 minutes!! Do Not Fall for it!!

Trying to figure out how it works, but it didn’t happen yet

We all can hear the chime go in and out of the meeting . It keeps dropping in and out 3 times and then never comes back.. have to keep putting the link.. we go back and there’s no transcript. Worthless! Tried again today and didn’t work. And I tried deleting account it didn’t work. I tried unsubscribing and that didn’t work either it just runs through a loop between the app and logging into the website… doesn’t seem like this experience is for everyone with it having 5 starts; though it does not work at all for me. Nothing. Calling the bank for stop payment.

I am a long time, customer of otter and have grown to depend upon it. with the most recent update the transcripts have begun randomly cutting off after a few minutes. Hopefully the developers will address this and many UI bugs.

This app seems to be great. I signed up for the free trial. I attempted to cancel via my app subscription settings on my phone but that didn’t work. I had to go back to the Otter app which told me to open it in a webpage which took forever to load. It also took many steps to actually cancel. And when I first canceled it said that there was an error. The second cancellation went through. This just seems like a shady way to do things and I desperately Wis I could get my money back.

This app did NONE of the advertised functions that I needed. When I went to cancel my plan, they made it extremely difficult to cancel it, which is in extremely shady business practice. Do better.

It’s very difficult to cancel your subscription. Cannot do it through the app, cannot do it online, and now I’m forced to put a stop payment order on this through my bank. Highly unprofessional and very offensive.

This app does work well for transcribe in notes, but you cannot cancel the free trial because it says you need to log into the Otter AI website even though you can manage your subscription directly from the app especially if you use an iPhone and you hide your email you can’t log into that website because you’ve done it from the app complete rip off if you don’t want to continue with the free trial.

Do not download this app whatever you do. It is not an app. It is a virus. It will wreck your phone.

The application did not perform as expected or as needed. As a result, I am attempting to cancel my subscription. However, when I tried to cancel through the mobile app, I was redirected to the website, and once there, I was still unable to complete the cancellation process. This inability to cancel through the provided channels is concerning.

If you subscribe through Apple, it’s almost impossible to unsubscribe. They make you go through so many hoops. Super shady! Stay away!

30 minutes into a continuing ed class, the app requested I upgrade to continue using, so I quickly plopped down $100 to finish today’s classes…. Only to find out in the next one that “Pro” won’t let me record more than 90 minutes at a time. App now wants more money to make it functional for the 3 or 4 days out of the year I might use it. (Classes are always two hours.) I’m back to taking my own notes. Cancelled.

Force you to website where you can’t actually scroll to and click cancel button in mobile browser either.

Used solely for transcription, which was huge disappointment. Hides billing in web location exclusively to avoid visibility. Wasn't until a fee months in of billing and no use that I caught this.

I am having trouble adding and saving my saved folder information. I could not figure out how to restart additional transcripts.

If you’re a student, the time restriction is not enough. 20 hours a month is pathetic

Otter is a fine product, but a manipulative company. It is also incredibly overpriced with new entrants: wisprflow, superwhisper, etc. They hold your information hostage, exporting costs significant money. It is easy to record, but they DO NOT allow multi-file export for your recording. You must buy a business (!) subscription to get them out. This is ridiculous, pure manipulation/capture. You do not control your data with this product. Beware.

Doesn’t seem to be a way to export audio from a call when using the app. There’s a way on the website though.

It downloads your contacts and then spams them until you download the dumb app. Really annoying

I resubscribe because I really enjoyed this app, but after resubscribing it’s recording my meetings, but not giving me any summary or transcript

After 30 minutes of using it, it will just stop recording your meeting unless you upgraded to a pain plan so if you’re looking for an app that can record meetings for free, this is not it.

When I first started using this app several years ago it literally changed my life. It worked great and quick and it was well priced. It still is very helpful. But it has become much more expensive! And it takes a LOT longer to get the job done. I had a 15 minute voice recording that I needed transcribed today at work. I quickly loaded it up thinking maybe 15-20 minutes would be really long. Then I waited….all afternoon! It was 3+ hours. The workday was long over before I could even get started. That never happened when the app was free…or then when it was $11/ mo…or then when it was $15/ mo. Now that it is more than $30/mo, it runs so slow that it makes me miss my deadlines. Not acceptable. Not sure what my solution is. But I guess I gotta go shopping again.

One of the worst ones out there. Plans are generally pricier than other AI note taker apps, and the quality of the notes is poor in general. They make it very difficult to cancel your subscription.

Not multilingual! I lost entire conversation recording.

Can't upgrade. I don't understand why. They put these restrictions on the app for no reason. Stops the workflow. Even if I wanted to, I could not upgrade to business on my cell phone. Really stupid not happy dumb app.

Free works ok, but it keeps forgetting I have a paid subscription so it stops taking notes after 30 minutes and deletes recordings even though I’m still below the limit. Very frustrating.

I quit using otter because there were too many inaccuracies in the transcription. & it wasn’t easy to work with. I now have a great ai recorder. I cancelled otter in 2022- THEY STILL BILLED ME IN 2023- & I had to fight with them to get the charge off- now they charged me AGAIN in 2025 & I haven’t had the app for 3 years!!!! They apparently don’t want to make the app better just try to scam former clients into still paying for the worthless app. I now have a plaid it is much more accurate less expensive & includes ai. It is what otter wishes it could be.

I’ve been using Otter for years as a paid subscription but it’s so unreasonably priced now for someone who wants basic recordings and transcript but has to pay for a business plan to get the exact same functionally I had before when I’m already paying hundreds per year only to get repeatedly hit with limits that didn’t exist before.

Names and comments get mixed together

Says $8/month, but tricks you into paying $100 upfront with ZERO warning. Completely deceptive from start to finish. I haven’t even used it and will never trust this app with my info. Stay far away—this is not a trustworthy app.

Playback speed is at least 1.5 and sketchy. I’m also unable to reduce the speed. When I try to find someone to contact, I cannot. It just keeps prompting me to upgrade. I DON’T NEED AN UP GRADE! I need a play back where I can understand it.

I canceled it and they still renewed it and blocked my bank from refunding as well. Greedy

There is no reason for an app to require access to your email and other information unless its purpose is to sell your information to others!

This app will not allow me to unsubscribe without deleting the the recordings I used it for. I used the app for two conferences and they are very valuable to me. After the conferences, both within 1 month and that was June and now it's November. After using the app, I spent copious time and numerous attemptstrying to unsubscribe, as it was no longer needed. I was in tears over the frustration...feeling trapped. There is no contact information. And the price was nearly doubled. ($16.99 x 5= $84.99) I am a senior on a low fixed income and have been paying this amount for 5-6 months now. I contacted my credit card company and they said Otter did not reply to their communication. It appears this company will keep this scam up until my credit card is canceled. It feels like I am a hostage. Do not subscribe to this Application!

The app itself works great. But instead of a monthly billing, they billed me DAILY the monthly amount. What a racket.

Good luck cancelling your subscription- I was charged for 5 months even after cancelling MULTIPLE TIMES

The ability to trim audio within the app would make this easily 4 stars. Sometimes meetings are quiet 2-5 min before the conversation starts. Cropping out the blank, useless audio would be fantastic. If you could export the audio file to save locally to .mp3 / format of your choosing, OR share the audio with others without the recipient needing an Otter account, easily would be 5 stars. I don't get why I can't share the audio to someone without them needing an account. Really dumb, especially given the monthly cost of the Pro subscription of the app. Overall it's a good app, but the limitations it has make it hard to be a long time Pro user. I'll be shopping for another app that allows me the freedom to edit and share the audio as l please

Lecture recording cuts off at 30 minutes, even though it says 300 weekly minutes are allowed. It transcribes well otherwise, even with your phone/device sleeping or off. AI's "summary" goes by segment, instead of one comprehensive summary. You can ask for that though. Overall, I would use it if I could actually have my 300 free minutes. After getting cutoff at 30 minutes without realizing until after I left my lecture, it really left a sour taste.

Too much friction to get close to what I need. Speakers are identified only as speaker1, speaker2, etc. The summary is not at accurate as it needs to be, and references generic speakers which is not necessary for each bullet point. The AI help tool gives false information about to use its own product. Also, when I asked for more recording minutes per month, they gleefully asked for 16x the money per minute!

Multiple meetings were truncated at 90 minutes, losing valuable content. Nowhere could I find capacity/recording limits or guidance for my 16.99/mo plan for meetings that ran longer than hour and half (90min). Subscribed more than six months -finally quit the subscription.

As a paid subscriber, I’ve been a heavy Otter user and was thrilled with the app until recently. As a consultant dealing with multiple projects and multiple clients, I have kept track of my transcripts by customizing the title to match individual engagements. Unfortunately, a new feature now overwrites my title with a generic, AI generated summary which prevents me from associating the transcript with the associated project. I now have to reconcile the transcript with my calendar to identify it and manually overwrite the useless AI title, an extra step that takes time. According to Otter, this feature can’t be turned off. There are many competitors in this space; I’m not willing to stick with a product which introduces friction in its usage

Otter has failed me many times, sadly during meetings when it’s been critical that I obtain a reliable transcript.

The Otter service is fine. Transcription mostly works, though it does bork a few more words than it should. But the iPad app is not great. Why can’t I copy text using a key command to paste into another app? Seems like a glaring oversight for a speech-to-text service.
