Absolutely terrible and a long waste of time. I’ve tried to use it multiple times with multiple different emails and even tried different forms of ID. It cannot confirm my face or it will say sorry we can’t confirm your identity. There is no need for this app whatsoever you should be able to just use the website and prove your identity there. If I could give it less than 1 star I would.

Keeps saying there’s a problem and to try later, but the system status says no reported issues. Followed all of the advice online (eg ensure it uses chrome etc) and still does not work!

Can’t add any documents only armed forces document can be added

Didn’t recognise my photo on my driving licence so had to work out how t return to beginning. Not easy taken me over an hour to set up this. Ridiculous

The only available identification to verify is a veteran card with out a draw down menu. Looks more like a scam app instead of what our tax money paid for

I can’t login as I have a work account and a personal one and have to use the work one for a personal issue

Kept going in circles super confusing

Four attempts to do a simple task of creating an account. Huge delays, timeouts and unnecessarily complicated. Totally useless. I am sure the old system 10 years ago took a fraction of this time. If this is cutting edge technology (beta suggests it is), it needs a total rethink.

Having downloaded the app when opening to login always receive “Sorry there is a problem. Try again later “ Have deleted and reloaded numerous times but never works. Wasted time on telephone helpline the only assistance offered is to try again.

Took us about 3 hours to try to renew passport - ended up having to phone. Very patient person on phone

Camera takes a whole hour to scan a clear shot of my passport. Useless app.

Didn’t work at all, unless you want to renew a veteran form

App wouldn’t work and neither would online services with calling and web chats no help told me I’d just have to pay and couldn’t even verify ID at post office. Told me to pay one of their ASCP and wouldn’t even tell me why it would not work, should not have been rolled out until the kinks were ironed out.

I’m trying to reapply for a licence to get my licence back since I can’t find mine. Why is this system so complicated? We’re in 2026 and a monkey could make a better app than this!! The official site asks to prove my identity which is no problem, I have my passport but what it asks of me is to use the app which there is no button or selection for this! Make it simple, allow people to upload their files without any complications than simply pressing one button, not this additional info or third party links that takes you back out of the app. This is so frustrating and annoying, I simply just want a new licence so I can start a new job! Simplistic and easy is how apps should be, not this garbage.

Would not recommend anybody to renew online - too many processes to go through

Inept guidance regarding scanning the chip

Let people live. So many things to do just to get provisional DVLA license

Took nearly 3 days to submit. Wasted hours trying to scan and the app froze multiple times. Had to uninstall numerous times as it got stuck.

It only lets you add one type of ID (AF Veteran Card). No other options are available.

Took 3 hours to sort out login only to be told it did not work!!! Every year you change so many things just no need

To simply verify my identity, It must have taken me 10 attempted and hours. Absolutely awful.

Very terrible app. After carefully going through each stage of verification, it will still decline your document validation. Not seamless at all. There should be other means of document verification.

Too complicated

The app opens to a screen where there’s no option to verify ID! This is a government app to conform with a legal requirement to prove our identity but it doesn’t work and yet we are the ones who will be fined! Absolute rubbish.

Useless and rubbish, go to prove identity on the app takes you to website try to prove on there and takes you to app. Knew anything made by this government is never going to work just look at the country! Just look at the sniffling little gremlin we have in no.10 taxing us for everything we have and giving it to anyone else! Don’t download let’s fight this and push this back!!!

This app is nothing short of a national embarrassment. It conflicts with the gov app, doesn’t actually let you prove identity and just takes you around in circles. GDS is utterly incompetent in UX design.

Like other Gov.uk sites I have used before this latest app is not user friendly and does not function reliably. It did not complete until my fourth attempt (3 on desktop and once on iPhone) and frustratingly does not save information to facilitate completion if kicked out. I worked through the app twice using my desktop and phone and tried once on my iPhone. Each time the screen froze when I reached the ‘check identity’ section. For no obvious reason (ie I did nothing different) it worked on the fourth attempt. Not impressed. Also, why are there so many ways to login to government services. I also have a (second) Government gateway account supposedly necessary to access government services - and a different app and login for HMRC….where is the joined up thinking

Out of date functionality - typical .gov

This app had me holding my phone vertical but was showing me my camera turned 90° so every time I moved it left the image moved up every time I moved it up the image moved left right or whatever it was. Some crazy mirror world and that is an insane way to have your app work if you need me to hold the phone vertical then you should also be showing me exactly what my camera says so that I don’t spend 3 1/2 hours (exaggeration) trying to position the bloody idea in the right place?

Time consuming and very inaccurate have been trying to do this login set up for half an hour and still issues persist

Very difficult to follow. Uses terms not familiar to general public. Can’t see many people being able to use it.

The coloured flashing light may not be appropriate for taking pictures

This is borderline ridiculous and forcing people to do what they don’t want to do.

Doesn’t work with passport, doesn’t work with driving licence.

I found the process incredibly difficult, took almost a whole day. Why is it so hard to do? If you don’t have a mobile phone it would be almost impossible. My wife is going to try to do it tomorrow, but I fear the worst. Why no proper human helpline?

The Gov.UK One Login app is really confusing to use and only works is conjunction with another desktop device using the website. Terrible architecture and user experience
