This is so bad that it could not find a prominent brand. Worse, it could not even scan a label properly, even after 10 attempts. I had just installed it but have seen apps that are sooooo much better than this and cheaper too.

(sigh) Where do I begin? Logging food is an absolute pain. So unintuitive, menu is bloated, it is easy to exit the logging window without having saved anything because there is no save button anywhere to be seen. Whoever worked on the UX design should be exiled. Then connecting to any third party app other than silly Apple Health is not possible.

I love the idea of the coaching and check-ins — great concept and it could make a good AI nutrition coach longer term. But the food logging feels totally outdated. I travel and move between a lot of places and using ChatGPT to log meals is way faster and more natural than tapping through menus. I feel like the app needs to ride the LLM wave — that’s where users are headed. Everyone knows how to talk to AI now. Forcing users through boxes and dropdowns just feels clunky. Not to mention, I already pay for ChatGPT — I don’t need another subscription just to log food. Here’s the format I use that makes it effortless, I just use this instruction in a chatgtp folder and make a new chat thread for each day starting from midnight: Log food for [YYYY-MM-DD] in this exact format: Each food item on **one line**: - Food name – P: __g / F: __g / C: __g – __ kcal Then, show daily totals in this format: PFC Totals: - Protein: __g (__ kcal) - Fat: __g (__ kcal) - Carbs: __g (__ kcal) - Total Calories: __ kcal Thread title must be: macro – [YYYY-MM-DD] From there, I can update it using voice input using chatgtp every time I eat — include a picture of the food, read off a label so it calculates per 100 g or 175 g, or even ask what good food choices fit my remaining macros for the day. I can ask it a lot of questions. That’s what 2025 food logging should look like — fast, flexible, frictionless, and smart.

This app is such a waste. First it identified chicken breasts as Brussels sprouts?!?! Then when I manually entered 250gms of chicken breast, it estimates a total 44 grams of proteins. I mean for an app peddled by bodybuilding influencers, this thing doesn’t know the protein content in the most staple food of every bodybuilders kitchen. Waste of my time. No thanks.

I was very excited to use this app after my husband found it. Coming from MFP I thought the premise of it was amazing. However after using it for about 1 month it tanked my calories so low that my body started shutting down and going into a relative energy deficiency. I ended up getting night sweats, losing energy, having significant brain fog and also deteriorating in the gym. It wasn’t until I manually increased my calories about 500 on my own when all of my symptoms got better. This was reflected in the metrics on my whoop as well. The other thing to note is my periods were affected and for those that know the female anatomy a change in your periods means that you are probably decreasing your calories too much in an unsafe manner. Ultimately this app is really not made for the female anatomy and does not account for any of this. This is discussed on their Reddit account and they do not know how to address it. For any females interested in this app, please make sure you listen to your body because it’s really made for men in mind.

This app is okay especially dynamic adjustment of the maintenance calorie intake but the lack of asian food database frustrates me. So don’t get fooled by the large database claims from its website.

i usually never write reviews but i hate apps that are free and have in app purchases right from when u sign up and not even let you try the app other than 1 week free trial. there’s free chronometer apps that have all good options and track fitness along with it there’s no justifications for your app to be paid for other than premium features not sure what exclusivity you offer but not a chance it’s justified by paying right off the start from signup.👎

I can’t understand all these five star reviews, I really wish I was having a five star experience. I’ve been using the app for about six weeks now, and about 1/3 of everything I scan is incorrect. I do live in Australia so I don’t know how much that affects things. Often it will get it close, for example I scanned a soy milk and it came up with a different brand of soy with different macros. I scanned a pack of wraps and it came up with the name but the macros were completely different. I just scanned a muscle nation protein bar, it came up with the right name, but said 27g protein… it has 16. 10 grams of fat, it has 6. I checked serving size and it was listed as the right grams. I think part of the issue is it counts dietary fibre toward total carbohydrates - this only explains some errors though. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to report errors like there is in myfitnesspal. I’ve followed Jeff for ages, I appreciate the depth he goes into in his research for his videos and I really want to like this app - but at this rate I’ll be requesting a refund, as it takes so much more effort than my fitness pal just to constantly make sure the macros are correct.

Hello! The app is good in tracking and it’s fast. but price factor is what making it to delete the app and get back to MFP or Lose it. It’s nearly half the price In India. Barcode scanner doesn’t read for most of the Indian Products.
Unknown · 2024/06/29 08:00 · LastWillAndTestimony
There were many reasons why I tried out this app. Was looking for something better than MyFitnessPal which I’ve used for many years. The food database is also not what it claims. Compared to MFP, this app’s food database is small and very concentrated on US and UK packaged products. I’m from Asia and when I tried adding Asian food, most of the database comes up with US or UK branded ones. Even something as staple as Beef Satay or it accompaniment Satay Peanut Sauce is not found in the list of food. I paid for 6 months subscription and after 4 months use, the database list has not grown. Going back to MFP. Giving one star to warn others to not buy into their marketing message or affiliate marketing content.
Unknown · 2024/05/22 07:32 · RayeinJapan
Couldn’t figure out how to add foods, then when I did the information wasn’t able to be edited (the protein powder I used showed up as 0 P). The only info it had right was the calories. I wish it was easier to use but honestly I couldn’t figure it out. Adding my daily meals shouldn’t be this hard. I added some things through scan and search and not everything was input into my food log. Maybe a glitch? Either way I won’t be using this app again.
Unknown · 2024/01/18 01:54 · rrakinn
Currently on day 2 of my 2 week trial, and app still has not been able to detect my food with the barcode. And I’m talking simple things like canned tuna and packet rice here in Australia. The camera on the app cannot focus on the nutrient label when it’s close, and then when it focuses further away it’s too far to read the label and register the carbs/protein/fat. I end up having to manually input everything and it’s getting too cumbersome given that this is a paid app. It’s upsetting since the app is nicely designed with a great UI and it’s really helpful that it calculates your required macros automatically. Wish it was more useful in Australia… will have to regretfully cancel my subscription until this is fixed.

I love Jeff nippard I’ve been watching his content for years! I figured it was about time I download his app and give it a shot. Went threw all the hype in the into of the app just to realize I had to pay, don’t get my wrong I want to supposed Jeff and his journey to greatness and id love to pay for his app but I don’t think you can put a price on health, you shouldn’t have to pay to get knowledge of being healthy, you should be willing to provide this service so people don’t have a reason to back out, I know a lot of people who back out of healthy things simply because price holds them back. I feel like if you were to go abouts this it should be like “my fitness pal” a free and paid version, cause at least I can show people new to health that it’s easy to be healthy and that is what makes me happy.

I did not found the oppurtunity to synchronize with my Apple Watch. I train a lot and it would definitly help my algoritm to also use my activities to give micronutritient info and set goals. Too bad because even the free app Myfitnesspall support this. I would have expected this for an app that cost €80,-.

This app became my best friend to be honest ! First, it helped me a lot achieving my goals and I am really seeing improvements in my body. Second, I trust the co-founder, he own one of the best labs to study sports and nutrition and how humans are doing it all this working with ML and AI. I really hope that this app goes so far and be better everyday.
Unknown · 2026/04/14 23:17 · Mr. Jay 026
I don’t often leave reviews but this app seriously impresses me with how well thought through it is. Let’s be honest we all want food logging to be as fast and frictionless as possible else it’s difficult to keep up the habit, but in fact this app makes it a joy to do. The app is so fluid, everything is where you’d want it to be and logging food is just so intuitive. I’m really enjoying using it. It’s also taken over my alcohol tracker, as it’s easier to do everything on one app and once you’re used to thinking of alcohol in grams, it works too! There’s even shortcuts for quickly adding a beer to your log on the fly. And all this is without mentioning the bespoke goal setting which tailors your macro targets depending on your preferences. It’s all just so motivating to keep eating healthy. Thank you MacroFactor. My only one feedback would be, for me personally I’d value having more of a focus on micronutrients. I want to make sure I’m getting a healthy dose of antioxidants, pre and probiotics, and I’ve noticed a few foods don’t have the micronutrients added, so it’s hard to know if I’m getting enough or not.

Unknown · 2026/03/17 09:39 · AleMolte84

Amazing app! I used to use Yazio and MyFitnessPal, but this app is far better in terms of design and user-friendliness. I’m from the Netherlands, and most products are included; if not, the barcode scanner works perfectly, sometimes with only a small adjustment to the macros needed.

Who is this app catering to? Even fitness professionals will struggle with this and they are surely a small percentage of your target audience? Adding your own exercises takes too long and is unnecessarily complex, the existing exercise library tries to be absolutely comprehensive but lacks basic movements like a plate loaded incline fly. The exercise suggestions in the program builder are strange and the suggested alternatives are also unusual. The UI is way too busy, there is constant information overload. I could go on, but I think that’s enough to be going on with. There are other apps that are easier to use and perform the exact same function. There needs to be a lot of streamlining to make this a usable app for the majority of gym goers.

I’ve tried plenty of food logging apps before, but I always gave up after a few days. They either didn’t have the foods I was eating or were just too much effort to use. MacroFactor has completely changed that. The food catalogue is comprehensive, the barcode scanner is convenient, and the AI photo logging feature feels like magic. It’s a genuinely enjoyable experience to use. Fantastic app and well worth the investment! Now to stay consistent and lose this extra weight 😆

I’ve tried various food logging apps, from MyFitnessPal to Lose It! and eventually landing on FoodNoms. This hardly compares to FoodNoms. I really expected more from the “coaching” the app was supposed to provide to reach more specific goals. If the app has a program, it should perhaps teach me too how to accomplish the program? You’re left with so much guess-work that you’re back to planning your meals carefully like any other app. Oddly enough, even switching between strategies it gave me the exact same protein intake recommendations on a standard diet as on a high protein diet 🤷♀️ How are these values really calculated? I read the article comparing MyFitnessPal to MacroFactor & while yeah, food entry can be faster… that’s assuming it has a database has the foods you consume. This hasn’t been the case for me with foods offf Malaysian & Singaporean supermarket shelves. The AI is not much better either, especially compared to Foodnoms. The default mode is photo-only, so unless you take every extra click for “Food + text” it will improperly identify plant-based foods. Could there at least be some context for the AI agent? It’s just… mid. The UX, the lacklustre integration with Apple Health, and the incredibly frustrating interface when creating food entries. There are other apps that do exactly what this app does for far cheaper a subscription.

I’m from Italy. Followed Jeff for a long time and wanted to give this app a try. Love almost every aspects of it but there are some things missing. Let’s go through: - missing other languages rather than English (may not be a problem for most but it’s still annoying not being able to use your native language) - missing water intake on another page. This is actually something that should be implemented, having some calculator that helps you also track water using the data from height, weight and how many times you train/ what type of training you are doing. - a way to track your training without having an Apple Watch. Love the feature that you can connect apple health with the app so they can share the data but still it would be nice to have a calculator where you can add your training session based on type of training. The only way now is to have an Apple Watch that tracks your daily calories expenses. Apart from these things the app works well and has great interface.

One month update: gained a lb first week, program cut my calories, lost 3lbs week two, program cut my calories, gained all of it back week 3, program cut my calories again. I declined as it would have me eating barely 1300 calories. I’m not sure what the rhyme or reason is to coaching but the trainers at the gym want me eating 1600~1800 calories and the week I ate about 1600 was the week I lost. I’m frustrated to say the least but going back to the 1600 and see where I’m at. Apparently this wants daily weigh ins not weekly which I didn’t realize so I’ll try doing that this week. Update in a month coming. I am all lifelong dieter—have done weight watchers numerous times, my fitness pal and lose it, chronic dieter. However my calorie cutting has now failed now that I’ve entered medical menopause and gained 20 lbs in a blink of an eye. I no longer want to battle with good food/bad food (ww, Noom and even mfp to a degree). I like that this app has me focused on eating more protein and calories rather than yelling at me for consuming a fat. I’ve completed week one and gained a pound. So I’m not thrilled but the coach tweaked my plan and I have heard from many others that it takes some time to see weight loss results so I will update my review in a few weeks ! Note I’m also lifting weights more and walking more now that I’ve recovered from surgeries chemo and injuries. I’m not as fit as I’ve been as I still have some tendinitis issues but I’m doing the best I can w eating and strength

I changed from MyFitnessPal to this App because of Jeff’s video yet the user experience has some room for improvement. 1. The database is nowhere near MyFitnessPal. Not sure how US or Canada users feel like, yet here in Japan, I literally can’t log anything using barcode yet MyFitnessPal does not have such problems 2. UI is a bit complex in terms of logging food. 3. AI function does not meet the demand as database is not as complete as MyFitnessPal. Overall, I switched back to the previous App but look forward to some major updates for overseas users.

Just barely not a 10/10 app — but much better than the competition!! I’m sure this’ll be fixed but… food search here in the Netherlands, under the Quick Add tab, can’t find food from most Dutch supermarkets. But it CAN scan their barcodes and recognize them. If they updated and improved food search + some barcode functionalities, this app would be a perfect 10/10

The app is amazing, all the features work great and the only thing I could nitpick is the fact you can’t reorder food items in a recipe – it’s annoying when you want to change a item in the top. However, the biggest issue for me is the price. The conversion in Brazil makes it so absurdly expensive. The average income is 1400 reais, whereas the yearly subscription is 399 reais… I think it’s a question of adapting the price based on the region. I love the app, and would love to be able to use it, but I cannot afford to renew it.

I’ve been using the market leading competitor app for 8 years and had been watching MacroFactor since launch. I decided to test it out five months ago. Other apps are good for overall calories and macros but MacroFactor takes it to a whole new level with its weight algorithms and weekly macro updates. I finished a cut phase and am now two months into a growth phase with the best results in a decade. MacroFactor weight averaging algorithm keeps me from spinning out over daily fluctuations, the AI food logging makes eating out a breeze. Highly recommended

Absolutely falling in love with the UI - ahh and the metrics / dashboard is just awesome. Bought a yearly subscription. Highly recommend over others simply because it has such a good dashboard + tracking + metrics. The only improvement I’d REQUIRE is that they should be adding more foods to their database + more barcode support, at least for indian foods.

I have tried many other apps before and had give up on dieting. MacroFactor has made it super easy to both cut and bulk. There is no adverts being showed in your face. There is a small fee for using the app but the price is more than fair for how helpful it is. I have set up most of the meals that I rotate between and have served them into the data base, this makes adding my food every day super simple! I use the app in the UK and the barcode scanner still works great recognising all of the different foods that I scan in. If there is a food that is not recognised the nutrition label scanner makes adding a new type of food really easy. The app makes seeing trends over time easy, this feature has helped me identify macronutrient that I have been missing out on. I have recommended this app to may friends already and have nothing but positives to say about it.

The features in this app work very well as described, and it has a very good UI/UX (and important part of software often forgotten). Its main competitor in my eyes is Cronometer, which I used heavily before. It excels above Cronometer in almost every area…except one critical one: food and recipe management. Cronometer remains superior in this area. And given that food and recipe management is the cornerstone of these apps which everything else is built upon, I will be switching back to Cronometer. Cronometer’s food database is far more robust and includes details that I found MacroFactor to still omit (amount of water in a drink like Soda or Coffee, the amount of caffeine in the morning coffee I have). MacroFactor’s barcode scanning is superior as it gets you the info instantly (Cronometer sometimes gives you 5 different database choices for your scan), but I found myself reliant on barcodes with MacroFactor as it’s search function to be poorer than Cronometer. It couldn’t even find a food I had just scanned when I type in the exact same name in MacroFactor’s database. You also can’t alter recipes unless you’re in the middle of logging, where that is its own area in Cronometer. Cronometer Gold is also half the cost. If MacroFactor can at least match Cronometer in these food management features, it will be more than worth it and genuinely be the PERFECT nutrition app. But those improvements have to be made first before that can happen.

I have tried so many apps for tracking macros. After using WW for a year, I realized I wanted more focused macro counting and began the search for an app that would have it all - trending, customizable, solid support and backed by science. Very lofty expectations and I found it in MacroFactor(after using My Fitness Pal, Cronometer, Healthi just to name a few)!! While it might be overwhelming at first to use the app given all the information, if you take some time to learn it will be well worth it. As you keep using the app you end up building your food library and I have many recipes now created in the app. I read the articles in the blog and as a physician was impressed with the level of detail represented. I love the integration with Apple health as that is integrated with my scale. The algorithm takes some time to get used to your intake and expenditure and becomes more accurate in over time. While I don’t love spending money on apps, this was well worth the annual fee. The trends are a nice way to see progress, the ability to track weight, body measurements, nutrition all outstanding. What I love even more are the different strategies presented when you sign up and set your goals. Truly the most flexible app I have seen with very responsive support. The Reddit page is active and helpful for guidance as well. This app is so much better and with some marketing can be the leader in the space.

Please add Korean. I don't speak English, so it was a bit difficult to use. But the app itself is great

Not just another diet app. This is a deceptively simple to use app that’s got the scientific power of a Formula 1 racer under the hood. I’ve used it for a few years off and on, initially to lose weight, which I did successfully independent of any other interventions besides this app. Slowly, but surely, which is the sustainable way. More recently I’ve used it for the last 16 months, starting halfway through a course of semaglutide (non-diabetic, but multiple preexisting conditions demanding weight loss) which I ultimately (and with my doctor’s support) planned to quit eventually. To ease the eventual weaning off and discontinuation of semaglutide, I started using MF. Based on the algorithm this app uses, it works beautifully in conjunction with the meds. I began weaning off after 4 months on MF, and fully ended semaglutide 6 months ago (these numbers are based on my own therapy and would vary by user). I now focus on weight maintenance (easy to do thanks to MF!) and am having no trouble maintaining my new weight thanks to the dietary insight from MF. Everyone around me has been skeptical of my keeping weight off after quitting semaglutide, and I am proof it’s possible, and that MF is a phenomenal adjunct to the process. I recommend it to anyone who understands that weight loss is work and is willing to commit to the process (using MF was always much easier than fighting my insurance company for the next dose of semaglutide, for what it’s worth). I feel I have gotten so much value from this app which just isn’t possible with other diet apps! Thanks, MF team.

Ux has way too many clicks to log food and feedback isn’t any different than free options out there. Calories are also a little on the high side on the estimates . I do like how it’s considering more factors but after a few days of use I don’t see that. I’d recommend removing the tracking part and pulling Apple health data from other trackers instead and focus more on indicators and progress

I’ve been using MacroFactor for a while now, and I’m seriously impressed. The coaching system is probably my favorite feature—it feels like I’m being guided by an actual human coach, not just an algorithm. The way it tracks calorie expenditure is super smart and reliable, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of managing my nutrition. Honestly, it just works without me having to overthink anything. On top of that, the dev team is amazing—they’re really responsive and write these incredible, in-depth articles about the app, the tech behind it, and nutrition in general. If you’re looking for a calorie/macro tracker that actually helps you stay on track, this is it.

I had tried MyFitnessPal MANY times in the past, unsuccessful each time. I had also counted macros in the past for body recomp but could never stay consistent with any physical progress I made. In July of 2023 I decided to pay for MacroFactor to hold myself accountable and I am still using MacroFactor daily as of September 2024. I have never been this consistent with any other app, and I attribute that to how easy it is to log and the progress I’ve actually made. In the year (ish) I’ve been using MacroFactor I have lost almost 30 lbs and am still lifting as heavy as I did when I was competing in powerlifting competitions… AND maintaining a healthy relationship with food. I don’t feel starved or slighted, even tho often I’m only paying attention to calories rather than my full macro breakdown. Never have I been able to successfully lose weight AND maintain my strength in the gym, and for that alone this will be the only app I’ll ever use for my fitness goals. I’ve recommended MacroFactor to a handful of friends who have also had similar success! Although my weight loss goals are just about complete, I plan on continuing to use MacroFactor in my maintenance phase bc now it’s just an EASY part of my routine. Never thought I’d be able to say that with a food tracking app! HUGE fan!!! My only recommendation (and this could be user error) is when I try to make a batch recipe, like pasta salad, I don’t seem to be able to say I ate 1 cup of that batch, the measurements are always off. Just never seems to work correctly for me for some reason? Otherwise, this app RULES!

I’d been using MyFitnessPal for about 6 months up until April this year but found it lacking in several areas, and when I saw a 2 week trial for MacroFactor I decided to give it a go. I’ve been using it ever since. A significant improvement over MFP. There’s a small learning curve to get used to it but once you do it’s a dream to use - very intuitive and well designed. Did you know you can touch the word Today in the Food Log tab and immediately jump to any day in your history? I’m making use of the coached program (Strategy tab) where it adjusts your recommended calorie intake to match your weight goal. I’ve lost 5 kgs in the 5 months I’ve been using it by adhering to the recommendations as closely as possible without getting too pedantic about it. The dashboard is excellent, the food log well laid out, and I love that you can configure it to suit your particular usage habits. I highly recommend users play around with the Feature Settings (under the More tab) to see what works best for you. Oh, and the developers are super responsive to feedback (More → Contact Us). Give it a try, once you get the hang of it I’m sure you’ll like it too.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice app. But since I think I live in India, the bar codes weren’t scanning. Logging in the food was kinda tough as the options weren’t that clear. I want the front end to be more user friendly for the main goals that the user wants. So if I want tot track my food as my number one priority than to see my carb intake I want that to be displayed w more importance. But I like the iOS Lock Screen widget. Cool af

Good when you're in America as the food database, label scanner is only optimized for the american food. Update the food database per the geolocation as it will make it more usable and easy to log the food intake.
